I've seen this game popping up all over the place lately, and, intrigued, i decided to snag a copy. So i've got the game, i've managed to install and run it, I've even played through the training missions. My problem starts right when i get to choose a job class. Regardless of which profession i choose, a loading screen pops up, and then the game dies, prompting me to send an error report. I've tried reinstalling, various compatibility modes and installed the patch with no luck. i read through the faq above but nothing in there helped. I'm hoping somebody here has an answer.
[edit] well after sifting through the mountains of "it doesnt work" posts in the faq i found my solution. creating a file named current fixed the crashing, now ive got no videos.

Maybe you need to register lgvid.ax every time before you run the game, or you simply need to reInstall the Indeo codec from the CD (iv5play.exe).

i've done the file registration thing but still have had no luck, i'll reinstall the codec and see what happens.

Does your computer have more than one CPU?

nope just a single core, it's 64 bit but only one core. also, neither installing the codec nor registering the .ax file caused the video sequences to work.

could it be the fact that it's 64 bit?

All depends on if your running 64bit windows. It's a tad buggy (yes more buggy than normal windows :laff: ) and quite a lot of old drivers and support apps (like codecs) don't work

There's 3 videos that're useful iirc:
intro
cutscene in engineering
cutscene at end
...I don't really regard that as a spoiler.
Perhaps if you install VLC and someone nice posts up a list of which video to listen to when (without spoilers - not that hard really), you could just alt-tab at the right moments.
It's a bit annoying, but it beats spending hours faffing around with something that might well never work in XP64 (because it rocks so much).

that's not a cutscene :) at least, not like the others that use a video file, it's done wholly in-game.

i don't use xp64, too much of a hassle. i s'pose i'll just have to do without cinematics. though i must say, the game is very intense. Even without knowing what's going on with the story. . .
