Why? Because 300 doesn't look interesting or unique at all and I'm sick of every Joe and Jane Schmo (my friends included) within three feet of me talking about the goddamn thing. Most of these morons wouldn't even begin to know what makes a good movie, and it's starting to show since the worst possible movies are being greenlit.
Hardly anything that comes out blows me away anymore and it seems that to see a good movie that actually gets the old neurons firing you have to look, look, look and then make the trek to a seedy little theater in the middle of Bumfuck. Granted, movies have been taking a steady nosedive since the '60s, but I remember back in the mid '90s when classics were still coming out at a pretty decent rate. If we had a bad year, at least most of the stuff coming out wasn't a remake of a classic like Get Carter or the Italian Job.
Hell, here's a few of the remakes they're coming out with in the next few years if you don't believe how hopeless the situation is...
The Wild Bunch
The Seven Samurai
The Lavender Hill Mob
Don't Look Now
Cabinet of Dr. Caligari
The 39 Steps
I doubt a lot of you have heard of a good many of these, but they're all near-perfect classics. They already ruined the Wicker Man to cater to you guys, and at what cost? Now nobody wants to see the original. I shudder to think of how they're going to sodomize the names of the great filmmakers one by one...Hitchcock...then Kurosawa...then Kubrick...
What kills me most of all is that I take the time to appreciate the layers and subtle nuances of movies and the other arts...and then some schmuck comes along and says "Oh, I don't watch movies made before 1990, tee hee..."
Call me what you will, it's not going to change the fact that 300 is a huge success while half of the moviegoing population haven't even fucking heard of Pan's Labyrinth.
Not that it's any of your business, but yes, I'm bi-sexual and I figured that out a while back (which was why I was such a homophobe when I frequented these boards more often years ago).
Gerard Butler and the guys do look pretty damn hot...that aside the movie still looks like a steaming pile of shit.
Wow! That’s arguably the most pretentious posting I’ve ever read…

to cater to you guysI think you have misjudged the tastes of TTLG as a whole and myself in particular. But carry on being a self-righteous culture snob if it makes you happy.
As for the love for 300, I haven't seen it and probably won't until it hits satellite. I'd guess that for many a love of the original comic medium doesn't hurt, plus sometimes people want to see an action movie just for the sake of an action movie. The Cheesiest Movies thread reinforces this.

Don't explain or justify, merely mock and feel equally self-righteous.

Oh, OK, my mistake. Raaarrrgh wouldn't know a good movie if it hit you in the head raar black and white classics regggfhh.
That better?

The important question is, does Zodiac feature DUDITY?

Don't worry Mithy, someday your tastes will mature, and you'll be able to actually appreciate the layers and subtle nuances of all movies, rather than just the parroting the tastes of critics who have deemed certain movies "classics."
Just remember, in the mid-90's there were plenty of pretentious shitwits such as yourself talking about how no classic movies were being made, and in a decade there will be another generation of disaffected youth eager to distinguish themselves by lamenting the dearth of quality movies in comparison to the mid-aughts.
We'll even let you pretend that this thread didn't happen, so you don't have to be too embarrassed thinking about it.

Wow, that's actually I really nice thing coming from the guy who remembers every post he ever read.
