Hey all
Just noting that a huge patch dropped for this game today. Why make a thread about it / the game? Well the games pretty damn good, but had one MAJOR issue. That issue was that the game did not play nice if you had:
* Windows 7 64 Bit
and
* An nvidia gfx card
Having the above would result in the game crashing, with an error about display drivers, when in actual fact it was as they hadn't coded the game with those 2 in mind. Now with the patch that has apparently been fixed up.
Planning on giving the game a go again (I last played it back around the start of last year I think), once I'm done with Satelite Reign.

Ooh, didn't know it was getting a Durante patch. Guess it's time to pick this up then. Hopefully it bodes well for the PC versions of Trails III and the next Ys.

I played Ys VIII on the Switch. It's good. Fun times. Loved it.

I quite liked the mix of gameplay from action rpg, to town building, doing quests etc etc.
The Y's series I've been very into ever since Y's - The Vanished Omens on the Sega Master System.

I'm not entirely sure why I keep playing it. The combat's fun but weirdly done with a tiny block window, and timing evades for a flash move that freezes enemies is guesswork at best, but it's so damn moreish. The NPCs aren't particularly deep, the locations aren't particularly expansive or benchmark-worthy, the story takes a back seat most of the time, and yet... running around that island is fun, damn it. It's like being stranded on an island done right, with a sense of the unknown and mystery beckoning you onwards. And there's always another distraction or story wrinkle coming up just when you're about to get bored. It's actually designed well even if it doesn't present itself that elegantly.

That's pretty much Falcom's shtick from what I've gathered. It's all low budget, high quality JRPG fun.

100%. It looks like a PS2 JRPG, but with nicer effects for magic etc. The gameplay is what shines most.

Eh, give it more credit than that. There are some places where it could pass as a PS3 game.

There's like, almost no normal maps in there, so I can see why that'd come across. But yeah, it has a higher polygon budget (considering it was a Vita game), and good art direction. Also, playing it at 1800p with supersampling and Durante's improvements/better textures means it sports a very clean, colourful look. When I said it wasn't presented elegantly, I meant the UI and the process of easing into its gameplay.
