I gave those tracks a chance, with the exception of A warm place (all 2.5 minutes of it) they were average.
So maybe they arn't the horrible singing cum stains that I thought. But that doesn't impress me much.
Maybe I just don't get it :(
Thats cool. Personally I have never understood the reason for Metallica's success either.
edit: Although I do like Orion, with the exception of the outro. Kirk's solo is terribly uninspired, even by his standards.

Metallica
Try:
Survivalism
Wish
The Good Soldier
Happiness in Slavery
March of the Pigs
They might be more along your lines if you normally listen to Metallica.

Actually, I'd agree. The main problem with
The Fragile was all the damn instrumentals.
The instrumentals on
Year Zero are ace, though, especially Hyperpower!, a fascist power anthem that quite literally consumes itself.

Ok started downloading the songs in this thread. Totally love 23 go in to the end.
Been attempting to find Hong kong farewell by Placebo but all limewire gives me is fake tunes for that one. Grrr. According to wikipedia its the last 5 mins of a song called Swallow. So downloading that and will separate it from there then have a listen.
To be continued as I track down these tunes :).

hey icemann I recommended a Jason Becker tune 'Dwellar in the Cellar' in my first post. However I think the track 'Opus Pocus' is a better recommendation.

Was also released as own track (demo version) on the 10th anniversary edition of Placebo's first album "Placebo". I have it, but dunno about this forums policies about uploading and sharing...

Double post
Ok had a chance to listen to a few more. Firstly "The Gallery" has words in it, so thats not counted. Good song though.
Kiwi Maddog 20-20 was excellent, as was Arpeggiator. Session by Linkin Park wasn`t bad at all either. Anyways back to listening to all these tunes. Some are extremelly hard to track down.
Hong Kong Farewell was the hardest so far. That wasn`t a bad song either. The song preceding it "Swallow" was totally creepy, but good in its own right.
