No, you didn't get what I or Vivian was saying - which was that Melon is not SPs at their prime. They were past it by then.

C'mon: Rhinoceros, Slunk (not technically on the album but still), Bury Me, Siva - the hits just keep on coming off that album. Siamese Dream was great, but I still prefer Gish.
I'm a sucker for debuts, mind you - there's something you get from songs that were obviously polished live rather than in a studio that gets missed in the second album. Any of you guys ever see em live, by the way? I saw them just after they'd released that song for batman with the stupid name ('the end of the beginning in the end' or some other crap). Talk about never meeting your heroes. Corgan sings like a dying crow live.

I love Gish and Siamese. It's downhill from there but let me tell you that they were awesome at Glastonbury 1997. I think it was '97.

For me everything upto and including Melon Collie was absolute art. After that their music took on a more heavier kinda sound style. Some like it, personally I totally hated it.
Siamese Dream and Melon Collie have always been my 2 favorite albums out of the lot. Both albums have so many memorable tracks. Excellent excellent music. Both are good music to listen to while driving also. Rocket inparticular is my all time favorite SP track. On the overall whole I like Melon Collie more, but only by a very small fraction. It has more awesome tracks on it (considering its a double album). Not to say that Siamese doesn`t, it just doesn`t have AS many.
Gish I hadn`t had the chance to listen to until recently. I dont like as many of the tracks on that compared to the later 2. That said though, I`ve been listening to the other 2 quite a fair bit over the years. After a few more listens I may start to like more of the songs on it.
I was SO DISAPOINTED when Smashing Pumpkins style changed after Melon Collie. They were perfectly fine as they were, and didn`t need to change at all. Them going heavy was just totally wrong. And for Billy Corgan to shave his head (yes I know he did it during the Melon Collie album) in an attempt to look freaky, didn`t work at all.
Angel Dust: Yep your totally right. The track I was referring to was actually called "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness" or thats what winamp tells me anyway.

on the whole instrumental tracks, again, not strictly instrumental but I've been listening to the (
