As the above thread title says, list your top instrumental tracks. By instrumental, obviously songs with absolutely not a word in them. Purely drums, guitar, piano etc. Was sitting here listening to Oscillate Wildly by The Smiths, and it occured to me that some of my favorite songs from my all time favorite bands, or newly discovered old bands, is the instrumental tracks they put out. And no trance / techno tracks dont count.
My top instrumentals
1. Faith No More - Woodpecker From Mars
2. The Smiths - Oscillate Wildly
3. Sade - Mermaid

Placebo - Hong Kong Farewell
The hidden track on their self-titled debut album. I especially love the disconcerting way it comes in when you forget about the hidden track. The stereo has been silent for ten minutes and gently this quiet throbbing grows and you're not sure where it's coming from.
John Frusciante - 23 Go In To End
Guitarist from the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Considering that all of his other solo stuff I've heard (and he's got a lot of it) is complete shit, this is a beautiful track.

I'm taking this to mean instrumentals in the context of bands/artists that aren't primarily known for them.
Little Feat - Day at the Dog Races on Time Loves a Hero
Or, a number of Frank Zappa's rock instrumentals like Black Napkins - they tend to be taken from live recordings.
Or, the long intro to Shine on You Crazy Diamond, though I'm not sure that counts, even if it lasts for about 9 or 10 minutes before the song starts.
Nothing else comes to mind.

Why on earth not? Unless you can come up with a better reason than "because I don't like it" this rule is likely to get ignored pretty fast. And how do you define techno? All music made with computers? Or all music that contains pieces of electronica?
Anyway, I'm not crazy about purely instrumental music, but I'm sorta into jazz and funky stuff at the moment so:
The Budos Band - Aynotchesh Yererfu, Up from the South
Cab Calloway - Chant of the Jungle
Erroll Garner - You Are My Sunshine
Outkast - My Favourite Things
Linkin Park - Session
Dick Dale and his Del-Tones - Misirlou

I absolutely love trance to death (saw DJ Scott Project at Pharmacy in Melbourne a week and a bit ago). But this threads specifically dedicated to instrumentals done by bands/singers that aren`t known for doing those sorts of tracks generally. If this was a "name your top trance tunes" thread I could list a zillion tracks. But deciding on top instrumentals by bands who generally dont do them is a much harder list to make, since those sorts of tunes are few and far between, and are very often excellent whenever they are actually done by the bands/singers in question.
