Of course, it only comes with WP rockets and all. You will note however that paul is always armed with an assault rifle.... if he were a true pacifist it'd be tranqs and baton all the way.

I usually get the following Trained from the beginning: Computers, Environmental Training, Medicine, Swimming, Pistol & Demolition.
Don't remember if one has enough skill points for all of those in the character creation screen, but I'm 99% sure to have those skills in halfway the first level.
Later I'll get Electronics, Lockpicking & Rifle trained, and then proceed to get Environmental Training and Pistol to Advanced.

I used that "downgrading of pistol" bug most of the time, so far. Accidentally at first, too.
I usually start with nothing, but a lot of available skill points, and train it as it comes.
First is usually trained in demolition for those gas grenades in the statue. More than that in demolition is IMHO never necessary, but without it it is too annoying to disarm the grenades in time.
Next training is skilled in computers once in the UNATCO HQ (so that I can steal more money, mostly.)
Also still in the UNATCO HQ, I go for trained in lockpicking for the two locks that you need to pick there for the goodie crossbow darts and the multitool.
Well, then it's trained in electronics, mostly for the MJ12 sewer lab.
The next thing would be skilled in environmental training, so that I can flee from the ambush in the hotel without using up all the armors of my collection.
Weapon skills are not necessary so early in the game, as it's more fun (and less risk, actually) to sneak around the NSFlers than to engage them in a fight.
I tried to go without computer once, and it was so miserable... I couldn't even afford me the LAMs from Smuggler before entering the shipyard. :(

Anyway. IRT the above quote, if your 10mm pistol is in advanced, or your sniper rifle, or you can run around normally with a heavy weapon, it's very worth it! :P
[But not necessary, I agree]

I did not say that it bothered me all that much, but I was feeling so poor and miserable without that nice stash of credit chits in my pocket. :p
The bug with the pistol has been mentioned and explained already a couple of times in this very thread here. :)
For the weapon skill - grrr. Is it about STARTING skills here or something else? So why do you need to run around while killing everything in sight in the first few missions? In any case, I don't run around while shooting in the game anyway.

I upgrade pistols - I lurve that instant knockout from the tranq darts. Not to mention the instant silent kill at long range from the lethal darts. The one problem with the game is that there's not enough darts. After that I sink some into computers because disabling cameras is good.
There's never enough darts and prod chargers *sigh* After a while you have to start killing things the hard way.
