The first (and only) time I saw Event Horizon, I was literally sitting there in the theater making a mental list of which scenes were ripped off from other, better horror movies.
Since this was so long ago, I don't remember most of it anymore. I do remember noting the duct-chase sequence was ripped off from the hedge maze chase in The Shining. And of course most of the end was broadly ripped straight from Hellraiser, with Sam Neil returning from Hell in happy cenobite form.

Plus the whole film's premise was ripped straight from Warhammer 40k.
It's been a while since I saw it, but I don't recall it being as bad as all that.
I'm surprised no one's mentioned Sunshine yet.

I loved the way they even managed to include lightening storms in space. Well, on Neptune. I was half expecting vampire bats after that. In little space suits.

That's one of the very few bits of the movie I liked. Obviously it was exaggerated (much like every "asteroid field" ever filmed), but it was a clever way to have a spaceship enshrouded in mist.

Maybe that's the key to enjoying it then - when I first watched it I didn't notice it had ripped off anything, and enjoyed it purely on its own merits.

Even the cigarette smoking, wisecracking British/American casting was lifted straight from Alien.

I don't want to say it's a great movie, but like I've said before, it's a better Doom movie than the actual Doom movie.

I caught Event horizon on the big screen back when it first came out and found it to be pretty ridiculous and inert, the kind of film where moody tension broken by a nearby door slamming ridiculously loud is considered scary. I actually found the horror elements pretty unearned and, as a result, unintentionally funny.
Event Horizon is terrible.
QFTMFT.
It had some nice art direction, which it often all that is required for cult status, but it was pretty bad in all facets and I always got the impression that they ran out of script/money/time about half-way through.
Yeah, it might be a 'better'
Doom movie than the actual
Doom movie but that's not much of a consolation.
Regarding Raimi doing Warcraft: I'm not really sure how I feel about this one yet. He can obviously do blockbusters very well but I hope he can do enough with it to distance it from the LOTR films, with which it will inevitably be compared. It would be great if Raimi were, much like the earlier games, to take a tongue-in-cheek approach to the material. I think we have little to fear (or hope for ;)) as far as collosal fuckups on the magnitude of
Super Mario Bros. and
Streetfighter are concerned since Raimi is more than a little bit more capable than the monkeys responsible for those atrocities.

I certainly think Raimi's sense of humour could contribute a lot to a Warcraft film.
