you know all this listing is nice, but wouldnt it be better if we talked about gaming firsts, rather than just rattling off a huge list which no one will ever read? ... Explain shit, expand on your lists.
I'd definitely agree with PigLick there - I always appreciate detail over long, long lists. Obviously everyone can answer the question how they see fit, but I'm hoping that people will perhaps comment somewhat on their lists.

Hey, PigLick, find the Edit button. The multi-post was charming in the Trump Dump, here it's as bad as the lists you're complaining about.
Let's see...
First RPG: Wizardry 1: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord. I played the heck out of that game... Never did win it.
First FPS: Does Battlezone count? Or does that genre start at Wolf-sorta-3D? I skipped that, but played Doom.
First Sports game: Does Pong count? The first real sports game I remember playing was a hockey game on the Intellivision. I particularly enjoyed the fact that you could knock down other players by swinging at them (and avoid a penalty if the ref wasn't around). ...I might have never really played a sports game. Just combat games that might happen to be sports themed...
First platformer: Donkey Kong. I think. Now there's a venerable genre. I was much more into Joust, though. Does that count as a platformer? (Or a sports game?)
First text adventure: Eamon. Although maybe it's an RPG? So, Zork, I think. The first one I really got into and finished was Infocom's Seastalker. That was pretty rad, with several "feelies" and multiple endings (which came as a bit of a shock to me at the time - "You can do that?"). It was Infocom's only "Junior" rated game. I also played a lot of Infocom's Enchanter, but I'm still annoyed at some of the moon logic and the multiple ways you can accidentally lock yourself away from winning but keep on playing indefinitely.

First RPG?
Does Red Box D&D count? If not, probably Bard's Tale 2 on the ST. I probably played games many these days would consider RPGs on the Speccy, but none spring to mind. Although Atic Atac was obviously inspired by RPGs and was one of the first games I played on my Speccy.
First sports game? I'm pretty sure it was Kick Off, or a really early Football Manager game. And I don't even like football. Oooh, wait, does Horace Goes Skiing count?
First platformer? Easy. Manic Miner. I thought it was shit then by virtue of being way too fucking hard, and I still think it's shit to this day.
First Text Adventure is again, an easy one. Mainly because I still remember to this day that all I could get Thorin to do was sit down and start singing about gold. Yes, it was The Hobbit. And it was shit.
First graphical adventure? Good old Future Wars on the ST by Delphine, who eventually went off and made a little game called Flashback. Here's a (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gj087mlxIsY) Yahtzee Let's Play
First FPS is a hard one, not because I don't remember, but that there were various games that I think qualified.
There was a game called (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ET2OOXs3ghM) Skyranger on the Speccy that I loved. Technically though, it was more an arcade sim. It wasn't shit at the time, but I was shit at it.
Then there was (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJcOVx8Arz0) Starglider on the Speccy. Again, more of an arcade sim than traditional FPS, but I loved it and would listen to Mr. Mister's album "Welcome to the Real World" on loop while playing it so fuck you, don't go stealing my Eighties.
Then there was a game no-one remembers called (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FiVRoQYsJ_A) Catch 23 on the Speccy too, where I would wander round a vector graphics world when all of a sudden weird killer frogmen would pop up on screen and I'd inevitably get shot to death.
Then there was (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bo0zrgaqrvI) Driller on the Speccy, which was the first filled polygon game I played, but had a framerate measured in seconds per frame instead of frames per second.
Then there was (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2OsH4ZuAlI) Zero Tolerance on the Megadrive, which if I'm honest was probably the first
real FPS I played. It had awesome bouncy grenades and blood that would drip down walls! Even Doom didn't have that!
Shamefully, my first Doom was the Atari Jaguar version, as I couldn't afford a gaming PC at the time. I didn't know for YEARS that the game was supposed to have music.
And I think I actually played Marathon before Doom, even though my old Mac that I'd worked night shifts to buy while at college had to have the smallest viewport with no rendered ceilings and interlacing to play at a double digit framerate.
First fighter: (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PA5b8Zhdb7c) Way of the Exploding Fist on the Speccy.
First turn-based strategy, and one of the most important games in my gaming life: (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVH9nUoHFXQ) Rebel Star Raiders. I'll take that "New Turn" 5-note honk with me to the grave.

Wow Malf, stirring up some memories, totally forgotten about Starglider and Zero Tolerance, they were great.
