In Dromed the void is quite dense so you can't start building additively without carving out some air (or water) to start with.

I guess technically a FM could be made in solid space only with solid brushes, but the player wouldn't enjoy any of it. :D Whenever I start out in solid space, I forever freefall.

Good idea for a mission. Go into forever free-fall and pick as many pockets of AI as you can on the way down for a specific time or something like that. I'm not sure how you'd stop though. Maybe use a trigger that ends the game at a certain point in the free-fall.

Some of the older missions, like Inverted Manse, Events at HighRock, Lord Edmond Entertains, have things in them, you don't see anymore. And of course, I could be wrong, they could be used elsewhere, I just haven't seen it. My point being, attributes from FM's long ago, use them now, updated of course. An AI riding a burrick, has that been done elsewhere? A ghost leading you to a specific place to open something, an AI laying down on the bed. I'm sure there is more. Just a thought.

i was going to mention that i also noticed on older missions certain elements that made the mission amazing, but it would have other elements that was nothing great
maybe one day if i have more time i will replay all thief 1/g/2 missions and write down all the elements i loved, and then make a list of them all
but you right brokenarts, so much amazing stuff in older fan missions
the only two things i feel should not be used in fan missions is "being poisoned" and "timers on things" those two come to mind ohh and super hard puzzles where you have to figure it out out of game/ with paper/etc takes away from emersion

That reminds of an older mission where you had to solve the puzzle to get the loot by learning a bit of braille. I can't remember the name of the mission that was fun to figure out but I had to go to the Internet to find out that it was numbers written in braille.
There is also a complex puzzle in a mission by Yandros that I spent hours on, but was impossible for me to figure out because of the colors, and I'm colorblind. There was another way to figure out the puzzle, when I gave up and asked, that was well beyond my knowledge and logic level at that time. I'm a tiny bit smarter now.
Overly complex missions and puzzles are good because they stretch the mind and improve thinking but can sometimes kill the momentum and emersion. That reminds me, I have a stack of missions I need to get back to playing and try to get through the stuff that stopped me.
One of the biggest things that annoys me, but I'll still play a mission, is a non-linear mission where you find helpful clues and secret passageways well after you did things the hard way. Maybe that's my fault though for going too fast through a mission.

Thanks downwinder, and things have certainly changed through out the years. I realize too, one must know some of the attributes in the first place in order to do this. Replaying some of the old FM's, at least many are not huge, wouldn't take long to get through them. Those I named are just a few. Seeing some of these again, has made them seem like new to me. The missions can be sparse on design, and have that one wow factor. It would be interesting to see. :-}

also playing old missions from authors who haven't been around in a long time, makes me wonder how they would have progressed in there style over time like "jis" "dront" and many more who i felt where ahead of there time, but maybe executed how people were not use to from om's as that is what most wanted in early fan missions
that one mission with they incorporated system shock with a underground temple was amazing, we need more thief universe mixing in fan missions
