No, he thinks it's said TO Johnny.
I don't think he's right - though I'm not sure either!

The above selections are all good, but not my personal choice. My favourite line could be construed as a spoiler of itself, so:
"We have grown, but there is still much to be done. There are many that live in darkness that must be shown the way. For it is the dawning of a new day."
Spoken, of course, by JC as the last line of the game if you choose the Deus Ex Machina endgame, after he emerges from Helios' fusion chamber thing.
I love the irony of how she continues to say that even after the club is raided and a dozen people (including her friend) are killed.

Well, if we're moving onto any character, then it has to be the woman in Denfert-Rochereau.
"Horreeeebluh! Horreeeeebluh!"

Oh noos! My 1234 happy-guy~!! (BTW, I found one of them for you:
"UNATCO Troop 1: Denton! Hey, it's Denton!"
"UNATCO Troop 2: You want these?"
"JC Denton: What?")
I really liked "My vision's augmented." that TGGP posted ...
JC at his best for me was in those philosophical conversations where he'd be at once way too naive, but then make up for it by being so cool and (ironically) skeptical. JC just had this undying faith that there just had to be
something good in some gov't
somewhere, in separation of powers, in political freedom, etc ... if only to set up the cynicism of every other character in the whole game -- but he also distrusted the cynics for being
too cynical. It's hard to show it in just one line out of context, but you really get a feel for it reading some of the dialogues and JC's responses where he's so sure about what's right, so reasonable.
talking to the Terrorist Leader in the beginning, Jock the 1st time, to the bartender in HK:
Quote:
"JC Denton: Our governments have limited power by design."
"Isaac: Rhetoric- and you believe it! Don't you know where those slogans come from?"
"JC Denton: I give up."
"Isaac: Well-paid researchers - how do you say it? - "think tanks," funded by big businesses. What is that? A "think tank"?"
"JC Denton: Hardly as sinister as a dictator, like China's Premier."
"Isaac: It's privately-funded propaganda. The Trilateral Commission in the United States for instance."
"JC Denton: The separation of powers acknowledges the petty ambitions of individuals; that's its strength."
"Isaac: A system organized around the weakest qualities of individuals will produce these same qualities in its leaders."
"JC Denton: Perhaps certain qualities are an inseparable part of human nature.
"Isaac: The mark of the educated man is the suppression of these qualities in favor of better ones. The same is true of civilization."
And to Morpheus, of course:
Quote:
"JC Denton: Electronic surveillance hardly inspires reverance. Perhaps fear and obedience, but not reverance."
"Morpheus: God and the gods were apparitions of observation, judgement and punishment. Other sentiments towards them were secondary."
"JC Denton: No one will ever worship a software entity peering at them through a camera."
"Morpheus: The human organism always worships. First, it was the Gods, then it was fame (the observation and judgement of others), next it will be self-aware systems you have built to realise truly omnipresent observation and judgement."
"JC Denton: You underestimate humankind's love of freedom."
"Morpheus: The individual desires judgement. Without that desire, the cohesion of groups is impossible, and so is civilisation."
If I had to pick one line out of those, maybe the "I give up" captures his weird mix between constant skepticism and naivety/undying faith as well as anything. The deadpan line "You underestimate humankind's love of freedom" captures something at the core of the whole game ... and it still sounds a little naive and funny if you think about it. Has he been paying attention to anything going on around him?! More like underestimating humankind's lust for power.
If I had to just pick some vanilla one-liners, these two are pretty good and haven't been mentioned yet:
"Yeah, well, take a good look at Manderley's dead body - consider that my resignation. I don't have time to write a letter."
"You mechs may have copper wiring to reroute your fear of pain, but I've got nerves of steel."
(edit: Oh, and not by JC, but the Russian sailor by the pool hall has one of the more classic lines IMO: "they shoot, and i run, and I speel my drink ALL OVER MY UNIFORM!" ... apparently pretty popular around here since Google's first hit for it was (
