I don't know if I complained yet, but I spent $1800 upgrading my system. Then I realized PCI-E and SATA was the future of computers. Once we start getting into 4GHz machines, I'll look into upgrading.
Oh, apparently some company is developing a PPU, or a Physics Processing Unit. I'm under the impression it will initially be available on a PCI card. I'll definitely buy one of those. A whole processor devoted purely to physics? Positively orgasmic, if I do say so myself.

It doesn't cost that much to upgrade your computer; i just upgraded mine with an asus 754 64-bit mobo with sempron 64 2800+ for only €120,- You can usually just keep using your old DDR RAM memory, but I also got two new DDR-400 512Mb RAM for an extra €95,- Fortunately I already had a good videocard (radeon 9800pro) so that should work right? Allthough a new shader3.0 videocard would be sweet; I think you can get those for around €150,-
SO if you just look well you can upload your pc to new standards for not too much money...

AMD Venice 3000+ (overclocked to 2160MHz)
Nvidia GF 7800GT (gonna overclock the shit out of it :cheeky: )
2 GB DDR RAM dual channel
2 x Hitachi Deskstar SATA2 HDD in RAID0 (will be nice since i absolutely hate loading, breaks immersion).
1 Maxtor IDE HDD
i absolutely loved morrowind, the mods made it 10x better than what it was when it came out.. it just got better and better.. i'm sure it'll be the same with obilvion.

I'd actually hold off on that, were I you. I bought the AGP version of that chipset back in September, and now I kind of regret it, not just because it's $200 cheaper now, but because it doesn't support Shader Model 3.0. I don't think Oblivion is SM3.0 dependent for the pretty HDR effects and such, but other games down the line will be (and the Far Cry HDR patch needs it, too :( )

Athlon64 3000+
1 GB RAM
MSI K8 NEO3F s754
MSI GeForce 6600GT 128MB DDR3
I can live with 640x480 and lowest details, I'm not a res whore.*
Scumble, what mobo & socket you have? Our configurations seem to be almost identical. Also how does your 6600 perform? I'm very satisfied so far.

P4 2.4@3.0
1 GB PC2700
Asus P4PE
ATI Radeon 9500 Pro (flashed bios) @378/320
It's an old box, but it's done remarkably well for me with recent titles like Doom 3 and Half-Life 2. (Okay, so not super-recent, but relatively graphics-intensive.) Even Fear played well on it at 1024x768, medium/high settings. It's been a fantastic gaming rig, very likely the best I've ever put together.
And with all that said, Obvioln is making me nervous. I have a feeling my poor computer is going to find its nuts in a crusher very soon.

i hope i'll be okay
CPU: P4 2.53
RAM: 1 GB
GPU: ATi X700, 256 mb
i know i'm a little shy on meeting the requirements for my video card and chip, but i'm hoping that i can buff them up. ya think with a constant replaying of the beginning dungeon i can train up my CPU and GPU?

I've got the AGP version of that card. I spent nearly $400 on it back in September (it was allegedly the 'last and greatest AGP card to be made') and now it's selling for way cheap.
I feel cheated out. I want that AGP version of the GeForce 7800 :(
it's pretty nice :thumb:

i will probably play oblivion at 2048x1536 resolution, just because my cpu is bottlenecking my gpu, and i can get the performance "free"
:D
