With all sorts of freebies, subscription services and great bargains, many of us must have acquired a crazy number of games. I don't think that I spend a lot of money on gaming, but over the years I seem to have added 1578 games to my digital gaming library. Obviously I'm never going to play them all, and at this rate my backlog isn't even getting any smaller, but a lot of people don't even know that there's a special backlog for those must-play games in your library. They call it the Backlog of Shame. :o
Here's what mine looks like at the moment:
* Alan Wake 2:
I was all hyped for its release, even replayed the first game to get in the mood, then bought the deluxe edition on the XBox...
... and I just haven't got around to playing it. Yet.
* Wing Commander 4:
Surely the oldest game in my BoS. I absolutely loved WC 1&2, and got WC 4 as a Christmas gift a long time ago.
Never played it though and probably never will, and it'll now haunt me for the rest of my days. Great.
* Fallout New Vegas:
Initially I didn't play it because I was told that the "vanilla game is crap", and I never figured out what THE essential mods are, so I lost interest.
* GTA V:
I never cared so much for the 3D GTA games tbh, but I'd like to see what the fuss is about.
* (a lot of) Thief Fan Missions:
The most shameful of them all?
I love the game and Thief is the reason why I joined this forum, but I've only ever played like five FMs.
* Trine 5:
Another one that I was really hyped for.
Then I wisely decided that I should replay the old Trines before, and I'm currently stuck in the middle of Trine 3.
* Cyberpunk 2077:
I'm worried that I'd get sucked in and then spend months obsessed with the game.
At least in this case waiting seems to have been a good idea.
* Disco Elysium:
Not sure if it's even my cup of tea, but I've only ever heard great things about it, so I count this as a must-play.

Haven't played WG4, but yeah, those other ones are all good! :thumb:
Good thread idea, yeah I think I have a few of these.
Have been sitting in my library forever:
Rings of Saturn - physics-based 2D space mining sim. Looks like the kinda thing I could get REALLY in to.
Tunguska: The Visitation - some very Stalker-ish thing but with a top-down perspective.
NORCO - cool and creepy looking adventure game.
Drive Me To Hell - short horror road trip.
Games I've played a bit of and really should get back to:
Landlord's Super - fixer upper sim.
Dustland Delivery - post apoc trucker RPG. I almost made a game like this, but then I didn't.
Tactical Breach Wizards - like with all of Tom Francis games, I like it but... I can't really be bothered to keep playing it?

I was convinced that I'd bought NORCO, but it turns out I only had it on Game Pass and never played it, and now it's no longer available... so on my wishlist it goes.

Thief: Gold
System Shock 1
Prey
Prey: Mooncrash
Ultima Underworld 2
Ultima IX
Wing Commander 2 & expansion
Star Control 2
Master of Orion 2
Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri
And that's not even counting the games I haven't completed but am on like literally the last level. Also, my actual backlog of big deal games from both the past and recent years is several times larger than this.
Do I win? I win, right!? :eek:
Okay, okay, before you walk me off a plank, I played most of these, just never got around to finishing them.

Alright, here are the ones I've got installed as if I'm gonna kick them out in the foreseeable future, and that I actually care about finishing, or trying to finish. There's a lot of classic games that at least right now I'm okay with not finishing, so I'm leaving them off the list. Also sequels to games on the list.
Games I'd be starting from scratch:
Darkwood
Ghost of Tsushima (I used to live on Tsushima, so I kinda gotta.)
Hellblade Sensua's Sacrifice
Indika
Neverwinter Nights & Icewind Dale
Outcast
Paperbeast
Pillars of Eternity
Prey: Mooncrash
Psychonauts
Stanely Parable
Games I'm already deep into and want to eventually finish
Assassin's Creed II
Baulder's Gate trilogy
Bioshock
Control
Cyberpunk 2077
Deus Ex Human Revolution
Deathtrash
Dishonored 2
Fallout New Vegas
Forgotten Anne
Hades
Heaven's Vault
Neva
Night in the Woods
Norco
Pentiment
Plague Tale Innocence
Planescape Torment
Red Dead Redemption 2
Roadwarden
Stalker 2
Stray
System Shock 1
Teardown
Thief Deadly Shadows

Also, while I know where henke's coming from with Tactical Breach Wizards, for me it's so creatively designed and cheekily ridiculous in the writing department that I feel a magnetic pull to boot it up again. It's also a turn-based tactics game for people who suck at them, because the core conceit of being able to foresee the outcome of your actions means you get to try a bunch of approaches without committing to a doomed turn. It's a pretty inviting piece of design.

I have too many unplayed games on Steam to comfortably count, but probably the most notable are:
Hades -- it looks like a game right up my alley, I love mythology, and I've enjoyed everything from Supergiant so far. It just looks like a game that would consume me and ruin all kinds of real life projects.
Elden Ring -- see above. The Dark Souls games are some of my all time favourite games and the biggest threat to my productivity bar none.
Bloodborne -- I've thought of getting a console just for this one game. So far common sense has held out, but one of these days... It's technically not in backlog yet, but it's still a game I'm determined to play.
Tunic -- someone trustworthy suggested it to me and said it would be right up my alley. I've strived to keep myself from any kind of spoilers, but I know it's some sort of a Zelda-like, so I've been putting it off as a special treat.

Now that you mention it, it
is very easy (at least in the first 2 hours). Don't think I've failed once yet, which is making it a tad boring.
Sulphur on 10/2/2025 at 07:27
Yep, it starts out pretty easy, and even while it ramps up gradually, you're never really going to fail a mission unless you just blitz through carelessly and don't make use of Foresee. Having said that, I'm also only 2 hours in, so it might get more twisty further out. Also, the optional objectives exist exactly for people who are finding it easy to steamroll through.
henke on 10/2/2025 at 08:55
Yeah I figured so, but I've never been the kind of player who cared about optional objectives for extra points (or in this case, a fancier wardrobe) and I'm not about to start now.
