I've actually heard that this movie is a complete reboot of the continuity -which is just really stupid, if true.

It's not.

This reminds me of when people expected to see a young Yoda when he would still be over 800 years old in Phantom Menace. People expecting to see Han & Chewie flying around in the Falcon when Han would only be a child.
I'm still disappointed that Lucas didn't at least have a cameo appearance by a young boy named Han (he could have been a street urchin who got in the Jedi's way or tried to steal something from them) while Ani & Obi Wan were on Coruscant.
A young Spock? Been there & done that ..... to death.

With all the crap that Trek has done since its heyday, I honestly think that the continuity needs to be rebooted in order to make any sense.

Yes, because the Star Wars prequels didn't have enough gratuitous cameos already.

So. :p I found it interesting to see where some of the characters we grew used to in episodes IV, V, & VI came from & how they got interwoven into the saga. And really, if you're gonna have a young Chewbacca then you should have a young Han. Lucas could've easily cut out some of the Jar Jar Binks parts (at no great loss) & inserted Han in there somewhere. Would've been more interesting than Binks imo.

The last thing that movie needed was another precocious know-it-all five-year-old hero.

Han would've been a lot older than 5 (Anakin was about 7 or 8 in SWI); he also wouldn't have been a hero of any sort. Judging from his adult character it'd be safe to assume he grew up on the streets of Coruscant pretty much fending for himself and was obviously no stranger to being in trouble. Just thought it'd have been infinitely more interesting than the Binks character, is all.

I read that Abrams turned down Shatner as a cameo and Shatner announced that he was "disappointed" although "not upset", whatever that adds up to. How much sense does it make to have Nimoy but not Shatner? Is it just because Shatner's BP character diminished his standing or something? Anyway, I was surprised to read that.

It's gonna be interesting seeing Quinto NOT emote. I can't picture him lifting one Vulcan eyebrow and NOT showing Sylar's smirk.
And a young teenage Han was going to be seen on Kashyyyk being raised by the Wookiees. Conceptual art and costume design were done. I think they even had auditions before the idea was scrapped. No hint of Han's Corellian heritage, no hint of Chewie's life-debt to Han, no Millennium Falcon, etc.
