True dat fett. Must watch that again, it was indeed great. Also high quality combat sequence that is superior to any bullshit your Tony Jaas and whatevers do.
Also a guy gets killed with an ink pen. Long before Heath Ledger did something similar:cool:.

Tony Jaa's an odd choice of example, though. The fights may be highly choreographed, but he actually does everything you see him do, and there's no wirework. Much respect for that guy.

To be fair though has gunsmoke ever been right about anything?
Yes.

I have particular ire for Tony Jaa because he burst onto the international scene with promises he didn't keep.
Specifically - Ong Bak's trailer showed people going down to solid strikes which was refreshing in its realism. But the full versions of the fights were the same old trading of 10s of killer blows nonsense. He was also made out to be the next Bruce Lee. Now I see his skill and I'm sure he kicks ass in RL but one thing with Bruce was the fights were real in that if you got clocked once in the face with a proper hit you get knocked tfo. Jaa doesn't do this at all.
GPB's fight is brutal and realistic. If you've ever done any close combat in RL you know it's right. There is a distance for me with Jaa's stuff, I just don't feel it. In GPB I felt that urgency, felt the danger and how visceral it was in addition to the massive sense of relief you get when its over and you've won.
Of course I realise this is all very personal to me based on my own expriences with martial arts. But I've heard similar from other people i've trained with, most of whom have fought at much more, err, extreme/competitive levels than me.

That is quite bonkers isn't it.
Nerd quibble: I've never been in an earthquake but I'd guess if you were in tremors even a fraction of the severity needed to cause that sort of thing you wouldn't be able to drive or even walk.
I know: big dumb disaster movie. I am curious if that's how it really works though.
