i'm just trying to figure out what's going on in this game..... before i mess it up so bad that i have to start over....

Save your game more then once renaming it each time! like if you've just completed a quest... and maybe you want to now become a Vampire, well first save your current game as say 'Unvampiric' then keep playing, and get infected with Vampirism, save again but with oh say... I'mdaVamp! as your save title. then if you want to play from before when you werent a vamp just load Unvampiric, I would also keep doubles of EVERY save. if you have a save called 'Unvampiric' make sure you have two in case one gets lost somehow, like say you accidentaly saved over Unvampiric with I'mdaVamp!, well then using my method you would still have Unvampiric2 to load from... keeps your games safe :)
