What the heck? Most of the spells the vendors sell are uncastable due to lack of mana...and I have 112 intelligence (yay item boosts)! Just how do the designers intend anyone to be able to cast these? What are they in the game for? GRRRRRRRRRR

The magicka cost for spells decreases as you raise the magic skill they're attributed too. If a 10 dmg fireball spell costs 200-odd magicka, it's because your destruction skill is about 5.
:edit:
Also, some spells require their magic skill to be level <25/50/75/100.

Ah - didn't realize upping skills decreased magicka cost. Good to know. Thought it was just linked to intelligence.

That's what all of those Fortify Magicka potions are for, giving you a temporary boost so you can cast your "Nuke All Of Cyrodiil" spell.

Not going to happen with the level 25 version (200 Shock/10 feet) unless you use plenty of Fortify Magicka equipment, spells and potions. Some silly developer decided that the high level versions of this spell should be horribly overpriced, at least twice as costly as if you could make it yourself.
You should be able to find a fix that uses the Auto-Calculate option for those spells if you search for it. Makes it possible to cast them without piling on Fortify Magicka, if you have 100 effective Destruction.

I'll wait for the patch to see if they fix it - if not, will mod it.

The only way you can cast curtian spells like that is to make sure you a high enough level in like Conjuration like for instance If you are only 25 in it and it says it cost 300 mana when you get around level 75 it will only cost 62 mana it just depends on how skillful you are in it

Who the hell cares about Finger of the Mountain? If you don't have enough mana, make a spell like it that uses as much as you want.

Wait so is finger of the mountain a leveled spell? I just finished the quest and got a crappy 6 dmg spell (I started a new character, currently at level 3). Also, is there a way to actually get the chorral recommendation once you get finger of the mountain? the guild head never gave it to me when I gave him th book in the first place.

Finger is indeed leveled. You should've gotten the recommendation when you gave him the book - what does your quest log say for the quest?
