You are here .... or here - by Vipercat

Last night I had to take my 35 week pregnant partner to the hospital for a checkup because of pains in her legs and while I waited for her to go and do the standard pee in a cup I looked around the waiting area for something to read. The only thing available was the " Emergency Evacuation Plan " framed on the wall which I gave a brief glance over but something about it caught my eye, I noticed that there were two " You are here " signs and both were pointing to a different location in the hospital and it took a little while to figure which part of the hospital I was supposed to be in because I was not familiar with this hospital. Then I noticed that there were little green arrows pointing in the direction that you were supposed to follow to escape to the stairs as we were on the first floor except that the room we were in had arrows that led out the door and into the hallway were they met arrrows going the opposite way and stoppped in the middle of the long hall. So I guess you had to go out into the hallway to catch fire because they didnt want you to burn in the antenatal unit because that would be very smelly and upset everyone . Surely if your going to post evacuation plans you would check they were right before putting them up . I took a photo of the plans with my camera phone because I know none of my friends will believe it:weird:

That is pure concentrated storytelling right there.

I say that you bring it to the attention of the hospital administrators and complain about worrying about your partner and that they can get in huge trouble for that and that you already got the pictures and ... and that they better let your partner have the baby at the hospital for free or else you'll send the pictures to the newspaper and the TV station and then there'll be hell to pay...
... no, maybe that wouldn't work.

that first sentence needs, nay, begs to be the starting point in a new noir writing thread. or maybe a hemmingway one.
