I've heard off that infomercial with the "cure all" book, that instead of taking tums, you can simply take a teaspoon of vinigar to nutralize the acids in your stomache. I don't see how this works
It doesn't. Vinegar is an acid, it's not going to neutralize acid the way tums would, and is useless as a substitute for tums.
However, if the problem is that your stomach isn't acidic enough, then it may actually help.

I don't see how this works and I haven't had a stomache ache for a long time. Anyone know if this is true? The other stuff the guy mentions, such as coral-calcium curing cancer seems to be complete BS so I'm questioning this guy's reliability.
That guy's got a huge rap sheet. Just google Kevin Trudeau and you'll find more than you want to know. That said, just the other night I layed down in bed and got really bad heartburn. I realized it was probably because I had drank a lot of water before retiring (I was replenishing after a workout). I got up and took a couple swigs of vinegar. It sure burned going down, but my heartburn immediately went away.

Not covered, or requires prior authorization or step therapy? How did you find out? Did someone at the insurance company tell you, or did the pharmacist? Because if it was the pharmacist, uh, they really don't know that. They just know that the clamis come back with rejects, and sometimes they don't even call us to clarify.
Insurance company let us know when we submitted a prescription for Prevacid to the mail-order service. No idea what was behind the decision to eliminate Prevacid from coverage, but they did contact our doctor with the list of covered alternatives and set up the new prescription. And, the Aciphex works just as well for us, so it's all good.
Re: home remedies for heartburn... in a pinch, baking soda in water works pretty well.

I have kind of a grouchy stomach, too. (Eech, just the thought of vinegar hurts a bit...) Someone told me once that saliva is a natural antacid. Keep working some up and swallowing, and it can get you through an acid attack if you've nothing else on hand.

What the FUCK company? I know that there's a dispensing limit, but it's pretty standard stuff to cover and I see no reason it shouldn't be... AFAIK Prevacid is a preferred brand (at least with the company I work for, though I think it's actually determined by the FDA -- fucked if I know, but I'll look into it) and Aciphex is a non-preferred brand (I just now checked the categories -- at least with my company), so on some plans you might pay as much as twice the copay for it, but hey, maybe not on your plan. Prices are about the same on estimated national average, so it advances you through your plan stages about the same (if your plan works like that), but THE COPAYS! MY GOD THE COPAYS!
God dammit, I swore I'd never take this job home with me. Anyway, feel free to give me the particulars if your insurance company has in any way been unclear about it.

Just looking at this guy makes me hate him.
The guerilla marketer rears its ugly head! Oh, uh... *sweeps his post under the rug*

IThe cool thing about both Prevacid and Aciphex (that is, besides the fact that they keep me from vomiting liquid fire 3 times a day) is that both have a never-ending rebate program. For every prescription, we send the receipt in with the rebate coupon and we get a check back for the full amount (and a new rebate coupon).
I don't have a rebate coupon >:(
