I can't even take on ONE of these guys! It's just chopchopchop, and I'm dead!
Any suggestions?

I have read in another thread in this forum that fireballs are supposed to be quite effective. I'm playing a fighter character and haven't increased a single magic-related stat since i started the game, and i can still cast fireballs. Haven't actually gotten round to trying them on the Ylsides yet.

like Orgone Accumulator suggested, if you've got the magic going, use the fireballs,
if not:
The Ylsides won't attack you when you're invisible, though they do note you and walk towards you. This results in them standing right near you (and doing nothing). This could give you some first strike advantages.
Also in the temple is the no magic zone I noticed the ylsides stopped following me there....
Later in the game, when returning to Arx, you can sneak past most of them using the portal in the kingdom and the secret passage to the kitchen door
Near the end of the game, when decending to the bunker, you should have got the enhanced mithryl sword which is (AFAIK) especially damaging to ylside armour

They are beatable in melee combat too, but it's verrrrry tricky, unless you have some freeze time scrolls handy. If you get them in the head, you can kill them with two or three hits from a meteor saber.

Playing as a stealth archer character I generally haven't broken a sweat against anything I've met up until having to fight 3 Ylsides when I returned to the temple.
Ended up having to go hand to hand in full plate armour and three stacks of heal potions. Managed to survive the Ylsides, but used about 26 heal potions.
I was somewhat put out to discover the bastards infesting Arx afterwards, since I was stony broke and down to one heal potion.

Use the curse spell on them. It makes them very easy. They can hit you with hardly taking any damage off of you.

OK, digging up old threads is one thing but digging up two to say exactly the same thing is too much.

Excuse me, but if you are referring to me you can probably see that I just became a member YESTERDAY! So if anyone is "digging up old threads" it's you.

Right sorry, it was Tinker that dug up this thread.
But then you go 7 minutes after you posted to this thread and post the same thing to a thread that's hadn't been posted to in two years.

I am new at the site and was looking for an answer to my question when I came across something I knew. I answered it. I wasn't looking when questions were posted. Tell you the truth, I didn't know the game was that old.
