AnandTech forums redirected me here; apparently, I've been here before, though I don't remember it. :weird:
Obligatory stats: My card is a "32MB Diamond Viper V770D Ultra NVIDIA". My machine has 512MB RAM and operates at 690MHZ.
I suffer from a graphics glitch similar to this, albeit more common on trees, the Statue of Liberty, and the top of its broken torch in the main building on Liberty Island.
I tried what was suggested at AnandTech (i.e. UseMultitexture=False, FullScreenColorBits=32). Unfortunately, FullScreenColorBits=32 hangs Deus Ex occasionally, and the combination of the two is slightly unappetizing.
I attempted setting ColorBits back to 16 and Use32BitTextures=True, but it did nothing to the blacked-out mirrors and green safety glass wires. The other renderers don't seem to work well, and I've been experimenting with the various [D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice] options, few of which seem to help.
I don't like the idea of buying a new $80+ AGP (non-Pro) card for an $8 game, so how might this be fixed? Is there a patch of some kind for Unreal that could be streched to fit Deus Ex GOTY?
Incidentally, I never had this problem with the Deus Ex demo. :(

that card is even older than deus ex. invest in a new one. i know you don't like the idea of spending a load of money on a new video card, but face it- it's for your own good.

what OS do you have?

invest in a new one.
Not even that. Just a newER one would suffice. You can get an old GeForce these days for the cost of a movie.

You're right. Although, should I decide to do that, I'm going to simply buy a new computer, what with the NVIDIA dual-or-quad SLI and the dual processor motherboard and the 4GB of RAM and the LIH-NUX-boyhowdy!!

This is just the incentive I need to get off my chair and make the switch (I'm assuming that either Deus Ex or Linux can be made to cooperate with each other).

..well there is one more solution (I might get bashed by zb for this but what the hell).voodoo2 cards can be obtained for as low as $1-5,and they DO run deus ex flawlesly..and you dont have to remove your graphics card,v2s are add-on cards..and they work in any 32bit OS.
ZylonBane on 25/1/2006 at 16:21
Flawlessly perhaps, but what sort of frame rate do you get when looking down from the top of the Statue of Liberty?
voodoo47 on 26/1/2006 at 07:28
no noticable FPS drop, but my CPU was quite beefy (for a v2),an athlonxp3000 :p .I might check how does it run on something slower (maybe celeron600),but I think it will run just fine, remember that UT engine is heavily optimized for 3dfx hardware.when I was playing deus ex on that celeron machine I had a v3 2000 there, and I havent noticed any FPS drop (and I DID notice it when I upgraded to gf2mx400),and v3 2000 is roughly as fast as voodoo2 SLI. I would say, five bucks for the v2,its worth a try :ebil:

I am curious where can you get Two identical Voodoo 2 cards (preferably with 12MB of memory) and a SLI cable for 5$???! maan I am taking it right away today! As far as I know those ready-to-go SLI combos go from US ebay for at least 25$ plus shipping and by the way it isn't as easy as going to nvidia.com for a fresh stable driver. You must have some knowledge in drivers and 3D stuff to handle 3dfx cards in your system nowdays.
I have bought a Voodoo5 PCI which is installed together with GeForce in AGP and the voodoo's drivers crash all the time, I have seen dozens of weirdest problems from this combo. Average user would never handle such hardware.
So If you want some old video card go for GeForce2 or better, those old GeForces still can run even new games ported from PS2 like GTA San Andreas and NFS Underground2
