All this is beside the point. It is Protestant Evangelicals doing the protesting here. Which, come to think of it, is what protestants do, more or less.

except for the secular claims that belief in god automatically means you don't respect science and that such hooky superstitious beliefs deeply damage the hallowed process of Science – conducted For Its Own End, as part of the great (but obviously not that great) scheme The Betterment Of Man Kind Cause We Are Just That Cool (Not That Animals Aren't Just As Cool Ofcourse), and the contrary stupid idea that THE BIBLE IS A SCIENCE TEXT BOOK! - Why can't evolution and "intelligent design" live together? What you call a random “natural” process of complex structures coming from simpler structures, even to the point of life evolving naturally out from sludge and then mankind through natural selection... I just nod knowing and say "ahhh yes, of course God has his hand in all that too". I mean, we don’t hear physicist proclaim that there definitely isn’t a God (lol at Stephen Hawking who has changed his mind for those that haven’t kept up) because we know that the most complex interactions can be well modelled through quantum physics – but we also don’t have theologists tearing up text books and putting their fingers in their ears singing “LA LA LA – IT IS ALL JUST ANGLES!!!” - or is it just that fundamentalist can’t be bothered reading physics research papers? I havn’t read up about it – but I imagine the pope will not be dissing evolution as your standard idiot (me) understands it but the idea of evolution excluding any possible room for god as in a scientist with a secular agenda jumping up and down saying “See it evolves!!! WHERE IS YOUR MESSIAH NOW!!! Proof god doesn’t exist, now can’t judge me as I marry my favourite cow!”

Creationists fail to realise that a "the earth was made in 7 days" is 100% compatible with modern science.
You just have to give God (Or whoever wrote the book of genesis) the right acceleration profile so that relativity will convert a simple 1-2-3-4-5-6-7 day time scale from God's frame of reference into a 6billion-3million-etc time-scale from the Earth's frame of reference.
Clearly, we should perform this calculation, extrapolate God's probable co-ordinates and send him a postcard.

Or remind ourselves that God is not said to have invented time or definitions thereof at any point in those 'days', IIRC from RE.
