Right, I managed to get Thief 1 running last week, using the very helpful threads here, but Thief 2 is just not working.
I'm running Windows XP pro 32.
I have installed the game, then patched it with the noCD patch linked here (as I was getting the 'can't find CD' error. I uninstalled and reinstalled before applying the noCD patch).
The videos are running fine, but the game crashes whenever it reaches the menu. I have tried to apply the hyperthreading solution, as it did run on two threads, but this didn't help any. I used the permanent solution, as the game crashes too fast for me to do it manually each time. Here's a screenshot of running the bat file: (

I have removed the ';' in front of safe_textures_something in user.cfg. No difference.
Now, in between applying all these things I've each time tried to run it in the various compability modes as well as without the combaility mode on. Every time it's the same:
If I run in win 95/98 it won't crash at the menu, but rather when the mission has loaded (it shows the video and difficulty selector just fine).
If I run it in anything else then it crashes right as it reaches the main menu.
I can't think of anything I've missed, but I hope there's something. I was looking forward to playing some FMs, but must of them seems to be for Thief 2. Any help would be very appreciated :).
Edit: I just saw a link to DDFix, and consequently downloaded it, patched the exe and ran it. If I run it in compability mode with win 95 or 98 then it will blank out shortly during the mission load and then freeze; if I use it with the other comp. modes or without, it will load the mission, but the textures look very weird and it will crash after a couple of seconds. Do I need to do a fresh install and only install DDFix? I couldn't see any information regarding this in the thread.
Edit x2: It doesn't crash after a couple secs, it crashes exactly when I move the view field. Very weird IMO.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've tried it out, but unfortunately it doesn't change anything. I've checked, and it is definitely only running on one thread or whatever they're called.

I've tried to uninstall everything and then only apply DDFix, and it's the same thing: It can load, but the textures are inverted (neon yellow, green pink etc.) and if I turn, either with the mouse or the keys, the game crashes. If I just walk forward or slide left/right it won't crash.
Hyperthreading is definitely not the issue. I'm using a Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT graphics card, with driver version 6.14.0011.6921. I know that the driver is very old, but I can't really figure out how old, and it's worked fine so far. Should I try to find a newer driver?

You either forgot to extract DDFix.dll / DDFix.ini into your Thief 2 folder (the pre-patched .exe does not come with them), or you forgot to match the resolutions in cam.cfg and DDFix.ini correctly.

:thumb: It works now! Thank you so very much. It was cam.cfg that was missing the resolution line, and once that was fixed it ran perfectly.
Now I'm off to gonk some taffers on the head!
