No, dingbat. The problem, as has already been explained, is that your idea is DOOMED. Not wanting to waste time or energy on a doomed project is called "common sense", not negativity.
You know, you really could be more constructive with your answers instead of giving off an arrogent tone every time you make a post.
At least, that's what I get when I read them anyway, could just be me.

Fine. I'll bow out of this thread and let someone else give you the exact same information I have but with a colorful candy sprinkles.

I'm not trying to be a jerk or a prick or anything, and I didn't say leave the thread, I'm just saying you're a bit too harsh with your words sometimes. Yes I suppose I'll drop this idea, but a friend of mine is trying to convince me to do our own game in the spirit of SS, so I might start that up with him.

That's sound like a good idea. Don't get too worried about all the negative vibes , that's just how some people are. They've been around a long time, know their stuff and have just seen so many "Conversion Project's" die out or get shot down.
Just keep away from using anything too "System Shock" like names, models, etc. but stick to the overall spirit of the game and you can't go too wrong.
BTW. Thanks for the heads-up on the NeoAxis engine. It looks impressive and I'll be playing around with it myself.

We`re negative because there have been 2001 attempts at a SS1 remake. And all of them began and died with the medical level with usually the first 1-2 rooms done.
If you truelly want to do a SS1 remake then either
a) Assist the CCP team with their remake
b) Assist Kodan50 with his remake, which has been the first in a longtime of the newer remakes to continue on.

Do otherwise and no`one will take much notice of you as we`ve seen all of this before many many many many many many many times before.

Yay my project was mentioned!!
*ahem
Reconstructing a new remake at this point is not really a constructive idea. At this point in age, you would need some kind of really impressive release, and proof of dedication to the project you are making. Models are going to be the worse, cause not a lot of good modelers are willing to put forth the effort in making the original monster models, and those who are lack the patience to make a jaw-dropping remake. This is where the lack of completion is. This may be where my project will fail to compair as well. I won't stop, because I know, eventually either some will be made, or I just need to stop whining and try and make them myself. I can make models, it will take a long time to make it a good model, but I have enough experience to know _how_ they work, and if I put enough time into it, then I am sure something will come out.
I think to be more precise thou, the important thing with ANY remake project, is to pick your engine you are comfortable with, if you are going to make a recreation, then try to pick one that can utalize the modifications you need, and try to code with more than one person, it is the pitts doing all the work yourself, and do not work on it every chance you get, that will cause burn out, we have seen a lot of that as well, this is why my project only updates once in a while, in spurts. I also recommend helping an existing mod. Smarter people than me thou have already said all of this ^_^

Or he can do what aircraftcarrier did and get pissed off with people telling him to go join an existing project, and make one model then drop off the face of the earth.
kodan50: You`ve put a hell of alot of effort into your project and haven`t given up even though its a 1 man project currently, so ofcourse I`m going to recommend yours.

For some reason most people think that the graphics engine is 90% of the work that is required to do a remake. It's probably closer to 10% if not lower.

I've mentioned this elsewhere before, but even if I sound like a broken record:
I don't see why some dedicated people shouldn't pick up The DarkMod once it's done, and use it as a base for a Shock inspired toolkit or game.
Eldron on 3/8/2007 at 13:27
1. scrap any ideas of recreating system shock
2. create a game and world influenced by system shock instead
EA couldn't do anything about that, and the only thing stopping people would be the eventual lack of experience in creating a game.
