Crazies. They're only radiating their own small land. America has deserts for this at least. French did it in Pacific and not near their own people's homes.
Oh wait.

Oh crap. I know this has very little to do with the matter at hand; but seeing as we have a nuclear thread:
Do you think that Mr. Bush and 'His Tonyness' are going to put us in a cold war style fear of nuclear war? Seeing as they are hardly making friends at the moment...
Sorry for attempted hijaking......but I wanted to say this. making my own thread would have drawn equal amounts of bile; maybe even with links.

One would be wise to not worry too much - testing a single bomb is a long way from a nuclear arsenal, and it has looked more like a political game to me, this fuss about North Korea. They simply don't have the resources to produce anything on the scale of a multiple-warhead ICBM, say. It's unlikely, anyway, considering the pestilent state of the NK economy.
I tend to be more worried about the vast number of weapons the US government has put all over the globe, or what happened to all that gear in Russia...
Still, it's a handy thing to divert attention from other more worrying trends in the world at the moment.

I think a cold war is the only way this is headed. Only it might not stop there this time. Theres alot of pressure on that country and I don't think thats gonna help the situation. Like over-inflating a ballon with radiation inside.

And many Australians still hold the grudge...
I was under the impression that it wasn't only Nth Korea's testing that was the problem but the "fuck you guys" policy they are taking with the U.N....

Good point.
There is always the nagging feeling that nukes 'of-themselves' are pointless. Use a small one; your enemies die. That's the idea.
But some of the nukes that are produced now are so large that they would kill pretty much everybody. The only need for them is that other people have them. They are there for psycological use. However consider:
If one of the countries that we are fighting in the 'OMG Foreigners with OIL' war on terror, were going to get one.....well....it doesn't bear thinking about. Particularly as the REAL extremists don't seem to value their own live at all.
'Oh crap' again.

Meh. Who cares? Are they going to use one? I doubt it. And all this freaking out just goes to reinforce the view that many have- one rule for some, another rule for others. Pah. On UK Radio 4 today they interviewed some Minister (of Foriegn Affairs or something) and not once did they get this woman to say it straight - they can't have it but we can because blah blah. :bored:

Does it matter.
Kaleid on 9/10/2006 at 13:17
Gee gosh. Now the neocons might have to do something about North Korea, a country which actually has the nukes instead of Iran. Darn it, no sea of oil there...
