Turtle - to summarize, you're all clear to stick it in the pooper, just make sure to sanitize when you're done.

Now I know our ancestors were a bunch of raving prejudiced lunatics, but what if by some wacky chance they actually knew there would be serious repercussions if mankind went crazy and fulfilled every weird sexual desire, both homo and hetero, and this, more than anything, is the reason adultery, gay sex, and all manner of fornication was condemned back in the day? So, rather than them saying "kill gays because they're bad... but we don't know WHY!!" they were of the mindset "kill gays because fornication leads to weird diseases that jeopardizes all of humanity!"
I mean c'mon... you gotta look at all the rampant sexually transmitted diseases out there and realize that humanity fucked up somewhere along the line, right? Doesn't our current situation with these diseases just reek of mommy saying "I told you so!" when we touch the hot iron... :erg:

Laws like that make sense when you're talking about small tribal communities that are dependant on breeding for continued survival and tribal identity. Not so much when you're discussing a human population of over 6 billion.
Epos Nix on 21/5/2008 at 04:35
I think the idea here is that small tribal communities came first. The 6 billion part (and all the accompanying diseases) was a result of us going sex crazy.
I guess my point was not so much to limit these things via laws in the present (the damage is done, right), but more that we shouldn't be so hard on those old geezers of yesteryear who warned us of the inherent dangers involved.
/edit:
And I think this, at least in part, explains why religions generally disapprove of gay sex SE.

Speaking of reason, since when is something good or profitable just because it's genetic and it can't be helped? I'm NOT saying that homosexuality is inherently bad, but using that argument to call it 'normal' or even 'natural' is idiotic.
It's not that because it's genetic it's ok. Well, it might be as it's being used by some personage here, but the reason people bring it up is usually because for long enough it's held to be the result of decadence and lax morals. Homosexuality having some biological origin (last thing I heard it was testosterone levels in the womb. Dunno if that's still current), that alters its status as 'mere' bad behaviour. And the christian right do still dispute pretty strongly that it has any physiological origin to keep its staus in the moral debate on the terms that they like. It's true any physiological aspect doesn't really solve it, but it does alter its consideration from what it used to be.

All I'm saying is Stitch and Scots - you kids be careful. I'd hate to see you get hurt.
I dip it in the baptismal font of my local church afterwards, cleansing both mind and body.

Love and anal sex are different things so even if anal sex automatically killed everyone who engaged in it you still wouldn't have an argument that being gay is bad.
That sounds like the beginnings of a rather awesome plot for the first mainstream Hollywood gay porn movie.
Also, Sulu just went where no Star Trek Captain has gone before

Pretty interesting what you've said, fett. I think you might be right about it. Although I should also say I know a fair number of older gay men who've engaged in anal sex for years now, and they're the picture of health. But maybe they just know what they're doing, I suppose. To be honest, that whole thing's not really my cup of tea, but I can't really knock it having never tried it myself.
I will say I'm glad about this thing happening in California though as I have quite a few gay online friends who live there, one of whom is like in his sixties and he's been with his partner for like 40 years now, so I think it's cool they'll most likely be getting married soon.

So they'd drop colostomy casually into conversation, Sypha?
