You're not on my ignore list you twit - I don't even know how to use the thing. ;)
You're right though, promiscuity is the major factor with those diseases. Without quoting a specific study, iirc promiscuity is proportionately higher among homosexuals than heteros. Maybe not - I can't remember where I've seen those stats and I tend to be skeptical of such studies anyway. Regardless, what I'm getting at is that ANY time people engage in anal sex - homo or hetero, promiscuous or monogamous, there is a high risk of spreading bacteria into other parts of the body. Nurses are now being trained to ask people with cervical and pelvic infections about the use of sex toys, which are often used in the anus, then used vaginally, or orally, thus transmitting bacteria from the digestive tract into the body's bloodstream. It's becoming a more frequent issue in my wife's hospital which sees a fairly high number of gay patients.
I think we're having two conversations here - the thread is about gay marriage/rights, and I'm going on about the medical problems associated with anal sex. My only point was that while I'm glad we're progressing as a nation, I'm concerned that education about the risks of gay sex isn't getting much air time. As Queue said - anal sex is on the rise among teens because it's considered 'safe'. There's much mis-information about it and it poses a greater threat to the gay community.

Vivian - lol. That article does as much to suggest that homosexuality
isn't genetic as the other way around. In fact some it can be used to suggest that homosexuality is nurtured - the bit about being later born with older brothers.
I've read a similar article which found that the result also exists (at least to some degree) in cases where the younger brother is adopted by another family and has no contact with their older brothers.

To "some" degree? What is "some"? And were these kids adopted as younger brothers into the other families? :p
Doesn't matter either way; as I (and later fett) said - being "genetic" is just that. Huntington's disease is genetic. What's the value judgment in that?
Now can someone tell me why so many religions have an issue with gays?

Wow. Just...wow.
As a friend of mine recently said, "It just fathoms me." [sic]

What I see here is a superficially liberal "Let 'em have it" attitude that barely veils the prejudices of some.
It doesn't really matter if gays choose or are born to become what they are, you know? Nor do anyone's opinions about what's natural. There's no such thing in life as normal.
What if I was to take a look into your bedroom and then come up with my own definition of where you got that from, why you're doing it and if it's normal, natural, healthy sex? Should we have a discussion about how you fuck your wife/husband if you don't bring it up? We're just concerned about your health! lol
Seriously, it's no one's business what two consenting adults do to get their kicks off.
And while curiousity is understandable, at least try and have the human dignity not to look at gays as medical, scientific or sociological problems. Because next time people might be looking at your minority or fetish group. And you wouldn't want your private life to be judged by the majority's standards. (Flashers not included.)

Koyla -you're reading too much into my posts. The reason I'm looking at them as a medical problem is because I'm looking at it from a medical perspective. There's no prejudice involved. Medical professionals are also trained to look for particular diseases that are common to Asian and black people as well.
The MAIN FUCKING POINT I'm trying to make is that there is a dis-connect in our society's perspective of gay sex, and the medical repercussions associated with it. Stating the FACT that these are common medical issues among gay couples is no different from stating people who share needles are more prone to blood-borne diseases, or that Jewish people are more prone to sickle-cell anemia. These are medically and statistically supported facts that the medical community is trained to look for and have nothing to do with bias or prejudice. It just means that in gay men, who are restricted to anal sex, there is a higher risk of medical problems than for those who do not have anal sex. That's all.
However, while some diseases show a preference for certain race groups, the diseases and infections associated with anal sex are a direct result of an activity that the victims habitually engage in. That doesn't mean they're evil or sub-citizens to be denied medical care.
AGAIN (3rd -4th time I've said this?) I wish there was some acknowledgment or awareness of the medical risks for the sake of anyone, hetero/homo for whom this is a regular practice.
