X3... Major spoilers. - by Thelink

Introduction
Overall, the movie was good. I'd say just as good as Singer's Xmen. There will always be some core differences between two different directors, and even adapting a story to a different medium. So minor inconsistancies can be forgiven easily.
While I'm a comic geek, I'm not so hardcore that I would boycott a movie because a suit is the wrong color or something. That being said onto the fun stuff.
The Good: :thumb:
The casualties. I'll admit it... I'm a sucker for a great death scene, and Charles Xavier had a DAMN good one. In fact, damn near all of them had a great death scene. I loved it.
One of the final scenes of the movie REALLY hit home with both the comic/internet geek in me. The use of the "I'm the Juggernaut Bitch" line was fucking fantastic. I laughed like hell.
I also appreciated the several nods that they incorporated into the film for us comic geeks (**Note) like Beast's "oh my stars and garters", the fastball special. & a bunch of other characters: jamie maddrox, Callisto, Psylocke, Arclight, Quill... the list goes on.
Bobby "icing up" was the shit.
I liked how the Cure plot was integrated in too, and how they used Leech for it. That was awesome.
BEST ENDING EVER. Period. Logan basically being vaporized and walking to Pheonix/Jean.
Jean: You would DIE for them?
Logan: No... for you. <STAB STAB>
They really have a solid foundation to build on for the next movie (if there is one)... and I'd love to see an adaptation of the greatest Xmen story ever written: "Days of Future Past". They already have the basic cast for it as most of the cast dies. This brings us to...
The Bad
(These are mainly pointless scenes or little nitpicks)
Casualties... Mainly Scott. WTF was he even IN this movie for? He serves no purpose because he's killed in the first 10 minutes, and they don't even show a GOOD death scene.
Magneto floating... Ok. As I said, the movies/comics are basically two seperate universes. And Singer always rationalized the powers of his mutants. Example: When Magneto wanted to fly, he used the metal disc. This makes sense in the film world.
Pheonix seems comatosed. For the vast majority, she just stood around. Does that seem fitting to you considering she just BURNED XAVIER ALIVE!? She roasted her mentor and sucked the energy out of Scott until there was nothing left. She's the fucking elephant in the middle of the room that no one notices. WTF!?
Alcatraz? I'll tell you why this was used. And it's got nothing to do with story, and 100% to do with FX. They just wanted a cool shot and they only half succeeded.
Storm/Logan hook up. This was a throwback to the comic's continuity. Storm is marrying Black Panther in about 2 months. But damnit she shoulda hooked up with our favorite hirsute canuck!
Why didn't Quill/Psylocke/Arclight just kill Worthington in the room where they found him? FFS do they REALLY need to take him up to the roof just so that Angel could fly and rescue him. Dumb. Plain dumb.
Juggie should have just throttled them dead. Kitty and Leech could hardly do anything to him. A Colossus vs Juggernaut would have been much more satisfying.
The Ugly :tsktsk:
Finally... while I'm not a griper of little inconsistancies, I will comment on a gross miscarriage of character mannerisms. (In the first X-Men they treated Sabretooth as a fucking paraiah)
Magneto is not stupid, but he is portrayed as so, and his "What have I done?" line at the end doesn't save it. Was the merciless destruction of his good friend not enough to clue him in? And make no mistake about it... Xavier was a dear friend of Magneto's. The fact is they had very similar goals, just different means of getting there. So when Jean disintergrates Charles RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM, this shoulda been a clue that the bitch was off her rocker. 'Nuff said.
Kitty/Juggernaut. When Kitty phased him through the floor he really should have died. He may be the Juggernaut (bitch... lol), but he can't survive that. This is a case writers/director obviously not understanding the physics of Kitty's powers. Not too mention it's common sense. That would have destroyed organs, tissue, and it basically would have severed his spine.
Rogue's out of character behavior was horrible and only made worse by bad dialogue
Rogue: You've never had to fear using your powers.(Said to Wolverine)
Wolverine: Yes I have.
errrmm... WHEN? Wolverine could actually pass as completely normal if he didn't go around cutting people in half. Rogues power could kill someone FFS. And Rogue taking the cure was COMPLETELY off base. She's always believed that her powers... although a curse... are there to serve the greater good.
Which brings us to my last point... the next movie (if there is one.) These mishandlings of the characters are a big hinderance in getting a fourth film made. A lot of the casualties in the movie were simply because the actors didn't want to play them anymore because of fear of being typecast.
Early in the film we see a patient being worked on by a coleague of Charles (Moira MacTaggert) who has no 'upper brain function'. If you watch the final scene (after the credits) you see the same patient calling out to Moira, and her answering "Yes Charles."
And onto Scott... Christ on a cracker... Join the cast more than 5 seconds Marsden. FFS man.
Well that'll do it. It's 5:30 am... an' I'm tired. See ya at the movies people.

I thought it was pretty boring.
The storyline went here and there, but didn't manage to focus on anything, which made me feel like the movie was just a collection of FX scenes with no purpose.
The characters were so hollow and one-dimensional with such horrid dialogue that they made me want to leave the theater a few times - and in this kinda movie I'm willing to forgive a lot for the eye-candy.
Scott dying ten minutes into the film: whatever, I never liked him anyway. The lake scenes themselves were nicely done, though.
Mystique: my favourite character in the previous movies. What happened to her was one of the better plot-devices in the movie, but I was still very sorry to see her go.
Angsty teenagers, fucking mountains of them: how wonderful it would have been, had they killed them off in the very beginning and concentrated on the more colorful characters - there's already an unhealthy amount of horrible high school drama in the world to turn a multi-million dollar movie like this into one as well...
Magneto's unceremonial 'end' was just about as rewarding as the death of Deacon Frost in the end of Blade compared to the ending of Blade 2, and Magneto's 'what have I done?' felt about as good a line as Blade's 'Some fuckers will always try to skate uphill'. At least Wolverine's approach to Phoenix afterwards was really nicely done.
Phoenix: After X-Men 2 I was looking forward to seeing her a lot. I was utterly disappointed. She didn't do anything most of the time and when she did, she didn't have any real motives for doing it. And in the end, just like the rest of the characters who died/lost their strength, she went down nice and quiet.
Basically it did nothing to me. I don't hate it or anything, since I don't mind watching nice CGI for a couple of hours, but that's all that was in it for me.

I thought it was ass. Mediocre action movie, disappointing sequel.
Kalit on 27/5/2006 at 16:57
I enjoyed it, I liked 1 and 2 better of course. One thing that bugs the shit out of me about it is it seemed like it was a comedy movie.
ignatios on 27/5/2006 at 17:08
My opinion is somewhere between Kalit's and Uncia's.

I thought it was good fun. It's pretty safe to say I'm no comic buff considering I could only name the core X-men crew by name. That said, I have no real tie to these characters or their various plotlines but that isn't why I go to a movie like this... I just wanna see some display of super powers, and X3 delivered on that front (moreso than the first 2). Throw in a good plot line and I'll be that much more happy, but a cheesy one with equally cheesy dialouge will do me just fine too.
Now, there were several things that bugged me about the movie but they are easily forgiven considering the first 2 movies bugged me just as much or more (the Statue of Liberty scene in #1 was, IMO, godawful). So from my limited perspective it isn't hard to improve on things. ...but that's just me, milage may vary.

I thought that the movie was just average. The worst part was the "PS 3" logo on the seats of the jet, just below the headrest. shamless advertising in a movie; nothing new, but kind of annoying.
In the movie, it seemed like the creators were trying to pack too much story into limited space and so the story line was choppy and I lost interest.
The movie did have some awesome special effects though.
I give it one thumb up.:thumb:

I thought it was a great, fun movie.
Explosions, awesome powers, many more characters being introduced, ArcAngels shirtlessness. Go team!
My predictions for a 4th film (if) are that the "cure" will wear off. Based on Magneto's moving chess piece at the end (echo's of the floating phoenix image at the end of X2) and based on how Leech's powers effect would wear off. I thought this was pretty damn obvious but the people who saw the movie with me disagreed.

I didn't mind it. I know absolutely nothing about the X-Men comics so I'm judging the movie entirely on its own. The dialogue and acting weren't as good as the previous movies--Ratner is definitely an inferior director to Singer--but the action setpieces were entertaining. I'm all in favour of any movie that has car-throwing.
I thought Juggernaut looked ridiculous. Maybe that's how he looks in the comics, but I remember at the first movie Singer giving an interview and saying "Yellow spandex might work in a cartoon, but it just looks ridiculous in real life so we had to go with something else." Obviously. I don't think Ratner realized that, or the costume person had no creativity, but Juggernaut looked like a clown.
Angel was completely useless and there was absolutely no reason to include him in the movie. There was already so much stuff happening that they should have left him on the cutting room floor.
Also, I thought it was kinda funny how quickly Logan is able to get from the school (in upper NY, right?) out to Magneto's mountain hideaway, and then to San Francisco, without using the jet. That's one fast motorcycle.
And I really doubt they'll be doing a 4th X-Men movie. They killed off just about everyone and it was definitely written as a conclusion of a trilogy. They are planning some spin-off movies, based on Wolverine and Magneto, but I don't think there'll be another full-fledged X-Men.

Did anyone else stay until the end of the credits?
We see Moira, the scientist on the television that Prof X shows to his students when talking about ethics. The old man without any 'higher-level brain function' wakes up and says, "Hello, Moira." She sees him and, recognising his voice, says, "Charles?" Apparently, Phoenix moved him to that body just before she ripped his original one apart.
Also Kitty Pryde is from Halifax.
