To get rid of long pauses; increase the player's weight limit to an insane number and just put everything into your backpack. Works for me.

Long pauses near the Garbage hangar? Do you have lotsa stuff in the blue box there by chance?
Actually, I do. Not a huge amount of stuff... as stashes go, it's probably my smallest. Still, I'll try emptying it out (Tourist Suit ahoy!) and see if that makes any difference.
I've been wary of using corpses for storage ever since I lost a pile of artifacts by stashing them in what I
thought was a perma-corpse.

I don't feel comfortable with storing my stuff on a corpse unless I'm 135% sure it's a perma-corpse.

Ill list some i know to be safe XD
Cordon :
The one which has the medkit near the injured guy at that wagon where you find the silenced pistol.
Garbage :
Any of the Bandits with the coats who are involved in the holdup at the entry
Bar :
Right at the entry theres one lying near a truck, always a rookie with white clothes
Dark Valley :
The two bandits you gotta shoot for the "Help Bolt/Dolt/whatshisnamedutyguy" quest
Wild Territory :
Never had stashes there, so im not sure. The dead scientists at the helicopter do dissapear. Theres a corpse in a little house a little down from the truck at the tower which should be safe.
Yantar :
Vasiliev :cheeky:
Warehouse :
The Freedom who get ambushed and killed at the start
Red Forest :
Never had stashes, but the zombiefied Exoskeleton Stalker is safe i think.
Prypiat
Never had stashes either, no permacorpses anyway iirc (the stalkers you start with might be, altho after awhile youd be hard pressed to find them in the mess)
Yes i had time to burn :p

I knew of the one near Rostok, but not the others. This info will come in handy, thanks. :D

Yes, it's already proved that long freezes around certain areas (Bar f.e.) happen because of too many items in certain type of containers. F.e. corpses are "fast" containers, but boxes unfortunately aren't. When player approaches a "slow" container, engine switches every item inside one by one from "offline" to "online" mode so that it could be treated as separate entity with appropriate properties (what it is, weight, quantity of contents, etc.) as if it was suddenly spawned outside the box.

I decided to drag the dead rookie near the entrance to Rostok all the way to the bar. So I can now use him as my stash instead of the box. This means less freezing without any negatives, assuming the body will stay, which I'm kind of worried about. :erg:
D'Arcy on 19/3/2008 at 04:47
That body stays. The poor bastard always dies, killed by dogs, when we first arrive at the Bar area. In my current game, which is by far the longest I've played, since I refuse to go to Pripyat, the body is still there.
