What the fuck is this shit? I say "Marvel writes..." and you people get into a fight over the WORDING of my sentence and call me ignorant?
Sweet Christmas, are you
that hard up for arguing with me? There's plenty of other things you could call me on but you choose THAT?
Jesus Christ.
As to stuff
worth arguing over, I don't have time to get into a debate over the content of Marvel's comics right now, though I'll admit that a few Hulk comics have been readable.
I was going to post something relevent that argued my case in a reasonable and logical manner
But there's really no point is there?

Translation: you don't actually have an argument. You can sit back and laugh and say "oh that dethtoll he's such a card he can't argue worth a damn" if that helps you sleep at night but it doesn't change the fact that your initial argument is completely fucking stupid. Splitting hairs with me is really fucking petty and proof that you don't really have an argument- however, you seem to think you do and thus blithely continue on with with your nonsensical (and, dare I say, ignorant) bullshit.
Case in point: Your claim that the Satanic divorce in Spiderman was not the writer's fault but was editorially mandated- it's actually both, as it was written by Jose Quesada the editor in chief.
Please, do come back when you're capable of talking about Marvel comics without going HULAGHALUGHAGUAGUHALUGH. And please, don't insult people's intelligence by chastising me for saying "Marvel writes" because that is such a fucking non-argument. But if you're so god damned insistant on splitting hairs then fine, I'll play along and tell you that Marvel does write the comics, their editorial mandates keep the writers from writing what they want to write. The editorial board is the cancer that is killing Marvel and has been killing it for 20 years. A lot of good writers have left high-profile projects because the editors keep telling them what to write.
Also, Rob Leifeld. Debate over.

Yes, clearly I'm the one getting hugely worked up and frothy about this discus

oh
That said at least you're actually making an argument now which is all I wanted in the first place so if you could concentrate on that instead of complaining repeatedly about me splitting hairs (I mentioned it once, calm down) it'd be great :)

Could you list some of these please (I'm not disputing it I'm just interested). I know Fraction ended The Order because of this, which was a real shame. Though I think there is something to say for having a limited run as it does make it less likely that subsequent runs on the comic drag it down and spoil it somewhat.
As far as killing Marvel goes, I'm sure you're not talking about their sales as they seem to be doing pretty well. I did a bit of searching and found these sites
(
http://www.icv2.com/articles/news/1850.html) Click the Dollar Trends for December 200x
Very crude stats for Marvel's growth in market share (scroll down to the bottom) (
http://www.cbgxtra.com/Default.aspx?tabid=1575) 1998, (
http://www.cbgxtra.com/Default.aspx?tabid=1151) 2000, (
http://www.cbgxtra.com/Default.aspx?tabid=1200) 2002, (
http://www.cbgxtra.com/Default.aspx?tabid=817) 2004, (
http://www.cbgxtra.com/Default.aspx?tabid=1744) 2006, (
http://www.newsarama.com/comics/081020-diamond-sales-charts.html) 2008, which show Marvel's dollar shar5e of the market go from 25% to 45% comparing Sep 98 and Sep 08. Not the best stats but the trend they show is probably borne out by better ones, which I can't find
Which means that you're talking about Marvel, despite their success, making bad comics. I'd be the first to agree that charts and sales are hardly an indication of quality but they are sort of the most important thing for the business and I do like to think that good quality comics generally sell better than bad ones, even if this isn't always the case :( However, as you've already said, how "good" a comic is is ultimately subjective which brings me back to asking

What else have you read that has sucked so much? More importantly, by whom?
Have you, for example, read Annihilation, written mainly by Keith Giffen, Bendis's New Avengers, Greg Pak's Planet Hulk or quite a few others if you'd like recommendations of comics that I think are very good?
because I'd still like to know! I'd like to add Brubaker's
Captain America run to that list as I think you might like it as it has great character development and very little melodrama
