right but this is my thread so...
and im not suggesting that Dead Space was SS3, obviously they are different franchises. I haven't played the game (..because I can't run it..) but from what I've read it seems to have some features that ss2 did in terms of atmosphere, setting, lighting. so I was thinking whoever thought EA redwood mightve been making ss3 actually saw an early build of Dead Space but connected what he saw to ss3 based on the similarities between 2 and Dead Space
here are some articles/consumer reviews that support what im saying in terms of similarities

Why are you arguing? I said it had similarities.

Dead Space kicks ass in its own right.

Dead Space's storyline does have a lot of similarities with SS2's. But that weird 3rd person view annoyed me to no end. I wish there was a way to play it in first person view.

Quoted for truth.
I'd settle for just a proper 3rd person view with a camera from behind, like in Gothic.

I'm a fan of the over-the-shoulder camera view.

I thought the camera was ok at best, though I really would have preferred it to be first person. For me the biggest issue with that camera choice was that the game was less scary that way. Did anyone else feel like that when playing? I was really hoping this game would have that same sort of unsettling quality that made SS2 so memorable, but after the initial couple areas where you weren't sure what to expect I didn't think the game was very scary at all. Maybe the game just wasn't that scary in general but I felt like it definitely could have been more so if my field of view was tighter and more...IN the game I guess rather than high above my shoulder.

That 3rd person view definitely made the game less scary for me. Also, towards the end, with a decent suit and a fully upgraded weapon, I never felt very threatened.

I`d have preferred 1st person view as well. Not much scared me towards the end.
And yes some major similarities to SS2. Though its aliens work off a completely different system than the SS2 many-style enemies.
Both share the biomass stuff, though that in itself is something taken from the Aliens movies.
Gotta say those flying creatures which turn normal dead bodies into alien zombies had me in a mad rush every time one would show up. Especially after watching the prequel movie to the game, which itself is an awesome movie.

Dead space had a lot going for it. The plot was pretty good and some of the work in the levels was great.
I didn't care for the over the sholder view. I felt the status indicators were a little contrived (why the heck would they put a status display on a persons back!)
I do like it when they create a real ship, not a series of levels. You do then have the problem of re-tracing steps, but I doubt any of us SS players would mind. The problem was that it was pretty obvious, "oooo a locked door I can't open, I'll be back here later!"
The spook facter on the early levels was really good and you were pretty fragile so that helped. Of course the further you got, the further you degraded into generic shooter terratory.
