Has anyone seen the Season 1 X-Files episode "Ice?" It's about a team of scientists that find an organism buried deep within a glacier in the Arctic.
Anyway, I find many similarities between this episode and SS2. First off, the organism is a worm. As in the game, once the worm is inside a human body, that person starts changing in such a way that they become violent, aggressive and unable to control themselves much the way that hybrids became the way they are once they were infected by worms. Not only that, but in the beginning of the episode an infected person kept repeating "We're not...who are are.." much like how hybrids say "We are who we are."
Just food for thought
here is the episode if anyone is interested. the quality isnt too great but hey its free so its better than nothing = P

I suspect not 'free' in the sense of 'legal'.
I do remember that one actually. It riffed on 'The Thing' quite a bit, and fairly well I thought (at the time).
Interestingly for the SS2 connection, (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice_(The_X-Files)) the episode aired in 93.

Sort of related: The first time I saw the trailer for Eagle Eye, I knew there would be a SS2 connection. (AI out of control)
And yeah, that X-files episode predated both Shocks. Perhaps some guys at Irrational were inspired by the show.

Or, y'know, perhaps they actually read science fiction, in which case there are dozens of stories they could have drawn inspiration from.
For our next thread... "Stanley Kubrick Movie Similar to SS1"!

. . . much like how hybrids say "We are who we are."
When do they ever say that? I've heard them say "We are, we are, we are, we are..." before...is that what you're thinking of?

Whilst that episode of the X-Files contains "worms" that take over people, its very different to the System Shock 2 ones. For one thing they dont over time cause a radical change to the dna of the person it takes over, and also if another worm comes in contact then both nullify each other out, or attack each other when in the case of 2 infected humans. In the many version they all act on the same side and work together.
Quite different really.

zylon not humoring someone. what else is new
Enchantermon; in that xfiles episode one of the infected people say "were not..who we are.." in the opening scene. Much in the way hybrids talk
Icemann, i didnt get into specifics like you did because I knew the game and the episode didnt completely align in terms of their use of worms in their stories. but the similarities that ARE there are interesting to consider
and another thing zylon...this is a forum. forums are places for people to talk. if you dont like what people are saying..no one is forcing you to read anything. its like people who write to the FCC because of something that they saw on tv or heard on the radio that they didnt like. well guess what, ever heard of the On/Off function?
didnt see eagle eye Chuck so ill have to take your word for it on that one, but we can always cite 2001 as a perfect example of AI going out of control
btw did anyone hear of a rumor way back about EA redwood making ss3? i get the feeling that that turned out to be Dead Space...any thoughts?

The rumor was just a rumor. The game EA Redwood made was, in fact, Dead Space. Which has a few similarities to SS2 but is not SS3.
