ok, now I have 2 Golden Saints, 4 Winged Twighlights, a summon Golden Saint scroll and an empty Grand Soul Gem. I would like to have something enchanted but I have no sense of what a reasonable constant effect Fortify Attribute bonus would be when using a Golden Saint. I bought the player's guide but did not find basic information about enchanting.
Please assist or point me in the direction of adequate reference information material
thanks
(yes, I searched)

I'm sorry what are you asking exactly?
Are you asking me how much fortify X you can put on [instert item]?
That's a bit of a question!
Unless you want to be more specific i'd advise you to check how much your self; its quite easy just go about the process of getting something enchanted but just cancel out of the menus once you find out the limit.
Remember the quality of soul only represents the magika reserves the item will have not the actual strength of spell you can fit on [insert item]. Each item (wapon/armour/amulet etc) has an enchant value which denotes just how large an enchantment it can hold. I don't mean to patronise you with this so please don't take offense i was just making sure you knew.
Nice location by the way. ;)

I did not know any of the information that you provided. Thank you. I purchased the handbook thinking that the basics of enchanting would be explained therein but to my chagrin.....
Does anyone know of good source material that contains this information?

Ok. When you say handbook i am going to assume that you have the book called Morrowind Prophecies. If you dont then this is a good book to have.
To answer your question:
The best items to enchant are more often than not Deadric Items and Exquisite clothing, rings, and amulets. Ebony armor and swords make a good second candidate.
In the book it lists all the weapons and armor along with the damage that they do and how many enchanting points each one has. The only problem is most of them are incorrect. The person that did the error correction on this book(if there was even anyone to do it at all) obviously didnt have much experiance with the game.
In order to see how much of an enchantment a particular item can hold with fortify spells, just talk to a wizard or anyone who has the "Enchant" option in their text and click on it. Select your soulgem and whatever weapon you choose to enchant, and then select your fortify spell and start raising the magnitude of the spell until the enchant points are about to exceed maximum. If you dont think the magnitude is enough for what you want, then just hit the B button on xbox to back out of the transaction.
This is how i do it.

Most people probably know this but i'll say it anyway cause when i started out i lost alot of powerful soul gems like this. When you go to make a constant effect enchantment you put the soul gem in the slot and figure out what you want to do. Then you take a smaller soul gem and switch the two soul gems without changeing the constant effect button. The only thing you have to worry about is if the charge on the soul gem is high enough to support the the amount of magicka it costs for the enchantmant to work. Hope this helps the ones that don't know about it
