I just heard the weirdest thing:
In the US, when you're interviewed for a job, you'll have to send a thank-you card to the person who interviewed you.
I could've bet it was just an urban legend, but then someone (a Finn) who lives in California, said yeah, she read the same from some "How to get a job"-guidebook thingy. It said that if you don't send the card, you most likely won't get the job.
Curious mind wants to know: is this true?

A thank you card FULL OF MONEY AND HOOKERS, perhaps.
This is turning into bizarre-o US rumours week: is it true that to get decent service in an American restaurant you must first sing the national anthem backwards and shoot a terrorist?

No wonder no one ever hires me :(
And I'd thought it was the no-showering thing

You've got that mixed up. This is how it's supposed to work:
If you light up a cigar while someone is interviewing you, and they don't sue you, THEN you have to send a thank you card. Otherwise, no card for them. Getting the job is actually immaterial.

No no. You are supposed to send a card for a BLOWjob.

That's a new one on me. While I lived in the states I never sent a thank you card for any interviews I had. It is considered a sign of interest to give a follow up telephone call though (I would only do that when I really, really wanted the job).
P.S. Tocky - NOW you tell me.

Bleh. I've sent them and never got the job. But I did once send a "that was a fun interview" note to a recruiter about a job and she fowarded it to the interviewer and I did get that job. But, over all, I think it's one of those bullshit etiquette things that high-level HR people want you to do so they feel important
"Oh, I really loved interviewing with you. I sooooo want this job" *fawn* *fawn* *kissbutt*
but serious interviewers don't really care about. Also, I think it's something only women do or are expected to do--like sending thank you notes for every party you ever get invited to and every gift you ever get. Which means they're asking you to kiss butt and grovel for glorified secretary jobs. No thanks.

I sent a thank you note after one interview and didn't get the job. I didn't send a note after another interview and I got that one.
So fuck thank you notes.

Why on earth would you send a thank you note for a job-interview? Is it actually tradition a little then, seeing as a couple of you have done it.

No this is not true, you can do a follow-up phone call if you want, but thats pushing it and will probably piss off your potential employer.
