I've played Thief 1 & 2 and Deus Ex several times and they're no doubt the best games I've ever played and after hearing about the new Morrowind game, it got me interested. Is this a game you would recommend to someone like me? What's appealing about this game?
Also, I'm not even sure my computer is able to get this game started! :) I have a Thunderbird 850, 256mb RAM and a Point of View Geforce 3... D'you think that'll do?
Thanks,

play its prequel, Daggerfall. if you like open ended games like that or even ones like Elite/Frontier, yeah. If you want deep immersive sim type stuff as exemplified by Thief.. its lack of ai and distinctive characters will probably annoy. this just going by fan reaction on boards.
I'd actually try Gothic if you're more into Thief/DX type games actually. It's very much a more "immersive" RPG. There's a demo of it available. Good if you get used to slightly odd control scheme.
(Edit: Daggerfall isn't abandonware and anyone that tells you otherwise is a liar.)

Itan hard if you reallly really want to be... and it's not much of a game you beat thog their is main plot.. i's a game where you do stuff... and for rallyno reason... but you charachter looks cool and trading screenshots is fun... and in the end as pointless as it is... you'll be addited to thegame of homicide (not dragons)... morrowind.

Yeah if you play with no hands, or keep punching yourself in the face while playing... it can be VERY hard to play MW.

The Thief AI was not the greatest in the world, though it was an awesome game.
If you liked the immersiveness of Thief (as a world, playing the character, discovering secrets, etc.), you will like Morrowind. However, while you can play as a thief in Morrowind, it's not a thief-only game, so the level of detail is not as high. For example, the whole footsteps/sound thing from Thief isn't there, sneaking seems to be much more simplified, and traps are somewhat lame. OTOH, you can go anywhere and steal anything (if you have the skillz), which is much cooler than the linear nature of Thief. There's also rules for getting caught, paying fines, going to jail, etc.
As for the difficulty: the game is open-ended and focused on roleplay. You can certainly make it much easier or much harder for yourself depending on how you approach the game. In particular, because you gain experience by using skills, you can become very powerful by using skills in a trivial and repetitive manner.
If you turn out to be a good thief, you will almost certainly grab some very powerful items which will make the game easier for you. Enjoy them, I guess. :)
I love the game and recommend it highly.

I'd recommend it wholeheartedly. Morrowinds openendedness makes for a general "feel" that reminds me of Thief. I've also heard that it's very fun to play MW as a thief, although I haven't tried it. I'm not a huge fan of Deus Ex, but if you liked it's RPG-elements, you'll get it X 1000 with MW.
But then MW is a work of art, a milestone and a masterpiece imo.
Your system should be ok, but don't expect miracles, as MW is a resource hog.

thanks for the replies, everybody, I appreciate it.
I've decided to get the game, but I'll probably wait until they release a patch cause I hear there are quite a lot of bugs. And the patch won't take too long I hope :)

I loved both the Thief games and Deus Ex. I can honestly say that Deus Ex and Thief were the only games that interested me enough to play all the way through. They are 2 of my favorite games. So far, I like Morrowind even more.
It's alot more open, but that can be seen as both good and bad. I kinda like a bit of structure in my games. Like Thief and Deus Ex, but the freedom to be myself.
Morrowind has WAY for freedom. And it's not exactly a bad thing. And you can go back to the main story with ease too.
I did most of my quests out of Balmora. It now feels like "home." I'm lvl 44 and not bored. Now, I'm going back to the main story for awhile...
