Taste cannot be incorrect; it simply is. Taste can be very, very bad, but not really wrong per se. Opinions, however, can be strictly speaking incorrect and therefore quite literally wrong.
Taste can only be bad in the eyes of someone else. If a person wears something and one person says "They've got bad taste" and another says "He has really good taste", neither is wrong because it's their personal opinion. And Opinions cannot be wrong in this context, by defintion. You can't say "Oh, you don't like it? Well I do so your opinion is 'wrong'", because their opinion is that -
their opinion on something.

So if I say "That Schindler's List is a really shitty film, one of the worst ever made", then you're telling me that's not a verifiably incorrect opinion? I'll beg to differ. Some opinions are just
wrong.
Bloody hell, do you even know what an opinion is?
HipBreaker on 30/7/2007 at 22:34
I doubt this is what duckman had in mind when he created this thread. If the thread is going to turn into a battle of who can define what and from what source, you may as well sticky a thread and argue opinions for the word opinion there....after all, I thought a forum was a place to express one's opinion with the understanding that not everyone will like it, therefore discussing it with respect instead of bias, and TTLG used to be one of the best places to do just that. Now, back on subject please.

Now, I would disagree with Zylon's "In my opinion 1+1=3" example. That can be proven wrong because it is not a matter of taste, it is a matter of something which can be
proven.
Gee, it's almost like that's exactly the point I was making.
"1+1=3" is indeed a
statement of fact. It's also wrong. But that doesn't make it not a factual statement.
DaveW on 30/7/2007 at 22:37
Oops, sorry, I misread your entire sentence. I thought you were suggesting that "In my opinion 1+1=3" is valid.

And thus the topic sank into the abyss of semantic debates...
The_Raven on 30/7/2007 at 23:24
Don't all these topics do that?
R Soul on 30/7/2007 at 23:37
I think Aerothorn was just providing an opinion, but I it's hard to tell.
I think Van Hellsing was very bad because it had fighting and monsters and stuff but I didn't find it interesting, exciting or scary.

Candystick. . . . .I think I love you. It takes great courage to say this. Frankly, I thought I was the only one who hated Shaun of the Dead but I'm not alone! . .and you're right, it's not funny/scary/ANYTHING. Near the end I was begging the zombies to just kill them all. I couldn't even get all the way through it it was so bad.
I'm guessing you needed a laughter track, token black sidekick character and some more slapstick for it to be amusing.
Honestly, I didn't think the movie was that great but what the hell is it doing in a 'worst movies of all time' thread? This isn't a "movies my friends really liked but I didn't understand" tear session.

The Scorpion King
So, what do I get for winning this thread?
Edit: Anything for Uwe Bollshit (see what I did there :p)
