There are actually only two movies I have not actually bothered to watch all the way through. They are
Anchorman and
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou.
That's right, I went there.
I hated Life Aquatic. I'm not sure if it was because I expected more of a comedy or what, but that movie depressed the hell out of me. My roommate at the time loved it and watched it like weekly. -_-

And an opinion cannot be wrong...
Taste cannot be incorrect; it simply is. Taste can be very, very bad, but not really wrong per se. Opinions, however, can be strictly speaking incorrect and therefore quite literally wrong.

I nominate "Shawn of the Dead"...
I didn't like SotD very much the first time I saw it, especially since all my friends hyped it up as great. I was dragged into seeing it again and it wasn't so bad.
Hot Fuzz, in contrast, was totally awesome! :D

No, they can't. Opinions by definition cannot be right or wrong. However, statements of fact can be and often are malformed as statements of opinion. For example, "In my opinion, 1 + 1 = 3".

The only part that bothers me is the rampant stupidity of saying it's awful without seeing it.

fortunately, I have seen it. It is utter crap.
BUT I WAS STILL RIGHT! :ebil:

I'd like to second
Ultraviolet as one of the worst I've ever seen. Seriously, that kinda shit should be outlawed.
OHOO. .see? SEE? HAH HAH HAH! :cheeky:

I nominate "Shawn of the Dead", I know a lot of people love this move for some reason, but I could bearly stand watching it all the way through. It's just dumb, not funny, not scary, it's not anything, and that scene where that main character cries for his father is unberable with lameness (wtf is this movie supposed to be?). By the end I just wanted them all to be eaten by zombies, as quickly as possible.
Candystick. . . . .I think I love you. It takes great courage to say this. Frankly, I thought I was the only one who hated Shaun of the Dead but I'm not alone! . .and you're right, it's not funny/scary/ANYTHING. Near the end I was begging the zombies to just kill them all. I couldn't even get all the way through it it was so bad.

So if I say "That Schindler's List is a really shitty film, one of the worst ever made", then you're telling me that's not a verifiably incorrect opinion? I'll beg to differ. Some opinions are just
wrong.

You are, as usual, completely ignorant of the basic definitions of words.

Seriously, ZylonBane, what's up with that? You try to re-define words all the frickin' time. It's stupid and annoying and reflects very poorly on you.

Heh. I think it's possible that somebody's taste might be so malformed. Ultimately that sort of thing is essentially subjective.

I'll add the voice to the "Don't offer an opinion unless you've actually seen it!" crew. I mean, Sunshine looked pretty rubbish but I never saw it, therefore any opinion I form on it is just an uninformed pile of claptrap to make myself look super.
On the other hand I have seen Hercules in New York and would put it forward as the worst movie/film I've ever seen! On the other hand, it made me laugh rather often so wasn't an entire waste of time.
Other honourable mentions go to Hawk the Slayer (which I haven't seen since I was about 9), Police Academy: Mission to Moscow and Singapore Sling (not enough Shannon!)
And I liked Starship Troopers.

"Unlikely to be shared by others" is not the same as "wrong". However, saying "Most people think Schindler's List is a shitty film" would be a statement of fact, and verifiably wrong.
(
http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-the-difference-between-fact-and-opinion.htm) What is the Difference Between Fact and Opinion?
Quote:
A fact can safely be defined as a true belief. Because belief is synonymous with opinion, one who makes a factual statement also holds an opinion that the fact is true. Therefore all facts are accompanied by an opinion though opinions do not require facts to be held as true by those who believe them; hence the statement that everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
Well... that certainly cleared things up.
