One thing for me that kind of ruined the immersion feeling was the content of the logs.. sure the acting was bad in some of them but what throws me off more is why people in their personal logs would be talking to other people. It doesn't make much sense.
In Doom3 when you pick up a PDA it shows you the correspondence between people in their email inboxes. Personally it was wasted on the game though because the logs in doom 3 really dont add very much to the game Imho.
I think better writing could've solved this with ss2. If people are recording logs they're not talking to each other in them.

I don't remember exactly, but I think it's something like all emails they receive or send are stored as logs.

Far more puzzling was that there was only one message per disc. Okay, maybe Goggles had some software that allowed him to access the last recording of the disc, but that still doesn't explain why there were so many of those discs around.
Person 1: "Did you get my e-mail?"
Person 2: "Let me check." *opens a briefcase full of discs*

Only some of them are personal logs. Most are actually messages to other crew members.
The audiolog discs are probably reusable.

My 2 least favorite logs are from Sanger. Just because she seems to get it right for the most part, but then puts a completely wrong emphasis on a word, or the tone of certain things she says just is so off-base with the rest of the log. For example, the "Malone's dead" log, she starts off really well, but then she says "alright Connie get a grip, get a griiiiiip" as if she's running late to her hair appointment. That and when she says "mama mia" as if she was sampling a spicey-a-meat-a-ball. These are the only logs that really just take me out of the moment they create.
Agree 100%. I'd actually remembered her as one of the best because she says her dialogue fluidly (not the same as acting imo, but I won't "go there" in this post;) ), but you're absolutely right about the parts you mentioned being awful. Which brings me to what Volitions Advocate already posted:

I didn't really have a problem with the logs being for other people vs. a personal memo, I just assumed the ones you find could have been for either purpose. I was just about to comment on the writing though. I agree it should take some of the blame (or credit) for some of the logs.

Polito is the best in the actual logs, SHODAN and The Many are the best voices in the game though. :p
I agree with you about SHODAN and the Many, but I don't really count "Polito's" messages to be audio logs in the classic sense since she is talking directly to you.
There are some great "actual" logs that haven't been mentioned yet. For instance, the logs by that guy documenting his experiences in the BOTM. His were downright awesome at times. Another character that were really good is that doctor in medical.
I agree that Bronson was pretty bad at times. Not because of her voice per se, but because of some of her inflections and word choices. While I'm usually not a big fan of having gratuitous cussing in games, her repeated use of "screw" in that one log, instead of it's more colorful synonym, seemed really fake and completely drew me out of the moment. This is especially true considering every military person I know cusses like a sailor. I don't really understand why it was necessary to sensor that anyway, considering that the game was already rated "Mature" to begin with. :erg:

Yeah Prefontaine was my favourite too. I liked Korenhkins too. The one where he executes that guy scared the crap outta me when I first heard it. His slow descent and mutation was so well done that it was a big disappointment when I finally met 'him'.

Clearly there are no english people on the forum, as a brit myself the most obvoiusly poor logs are those of Erin Bloom.
She's an american putting on a brittish accent!
Her accent slips from a posh "Dowctar Millaar" to cockney "It's not loik 'im", kinda makes me laugh even though the story is just getting really dark at that point.

Umm to all the Dr. Marie Delacroix voice naysayers you do realize this is the year 2114? Languages and accents have the ability to change over long periods of time.
For all we know she spent the first 20 years of her life on a remote colonial Asteroid somewhere in the Kuiper Belt and learned the language and accent of those around her.
It's like Canadians & Americans, only 300 years and we have a different English and French accent than the United Kingdom and France which is where most of the people here can trace their ancestry.

Worst audio logs?
The ones in Doom 3.
