Uruguay 3-0 Russia
Russia's first game against a tougher opponent, and it showed. Perhaps Uruguay just had a very good game, but Russia looked quite poor. I noticed that I don't dislike Luis Suarez that much anymore... hopefully he won't bite someone in the next game.
Saudi Arabia 2-1 Egypt
I only watched the extended highlights, but it didn't seem too bad for a meaningless game. The late winner was a nice surprise, even though I think that Egypt would have deserved it more. Saudi Arabia's first goal came from a penalty that looked like quite a questionable decision from the referee.

Thanks, that's a useful link! :)
I didn't watch the evening game(s) yesterday as I was too busy sleeping, but I did check out the highlights this morning of course. Seems like I didn't miss much, apart from some frustrating VAR action. It's a shame that neither Iran or Morocco could cause an upset and knock Portugal or/and Spain out, but I guess that they didn't really deserve to. Very predictable, but oh well. At least CRonaldo missed a penalty.
Iran 1-1 Portugal
Spain 2-2 Morocco

And there it is... the first 0-0 match. :( Denmark seemed to be happy playing for 0-0 from the beginning, and France went along with it. Both teams qualify for the next round... I wish they gave negative points for inept and embarrassing performances like this, now both Denmark and France just lose a bunch of sympathy points from me. Shit game, definitely the worst one so far.

Peru 2-0 Australia
A meaningless game after the Danish-French farce. Good goals for Peru. Thankfully Peru won, as it means that the result from the other game didn't matter after all. Sad to see Australia out already.

Nigeria 1-2 Argentina
So very gutted for Nigeria! This match was truly heartbreaking - perhaps my two favourites deciding who goes to the knockout games and who goes home. While I'm also pleased that Argentina are now through, I feel that Nigeria would have deserved it more. I still can't see Argies going very far in this tournament, but I do hope that they go all the way now. Not gonna happen though - Argentina looked like a mess again, yet somehow still managed to win. Bye Nigeria, I hope to see you again in four years.
Iceland 1-2 Croatia
Didn't watch this one. As much as I love Iceland, I found myself rooting for Nigeria and Argentina even more.

I'm just catching up on highlights now because Mon & Tues were marathon work days, and it seems like I didn't miss anything great. I kind of expected better from some teams on the bubble. Sad to see Australia back out of this WC on a poor showing, sad to see French and Danes playing not to lose, and bummed that Nigeria couldn't pull it off cause I'm no fan of Argentina.

I watched the highlights of the Croatia vs Iceland game this morning... damn, I feel even more sorry for Iceland now. They looked like the better team, and with a tiny bit of luck in front of the goal they could have won the game.
As for Argentina, I'm starting to like them more now that the rest of the world wants to see them fail. I hope that they finally get their act together before the France game.

Iceland did amazing for what's a country of just 334 000 people. I'm not even sure how they manage to practice without kicking the ball into a volcano or something.

Sweden 3-0 Mexico
Wow, is this really the same Sweden that turned up against Germany? And how did Mexico collapse so badly? It feels kinda bad that even Mexico goes through after a performance like this. Sweden got a bit lucky with their goals, but their 2nd half performance was so dominant that they deserved to win. I still hate it how they complain about every single referee decision that goes against them though.
Germany 0-2 South Korea
Wow, is this really the same Germany that turned up against Sweden? No, it was the same Germany who turned up for their first game, unfortunately. Germany, the WC'14 champions, are out! It's a bit of a shock and a disappointment really - they're not even in my top 10 favourites, it's just that World Cup isn't the same without them. Hopefully we'll get a new champion this year... or Argentina. :p
