Giving "free" money wouldn't solve the main problem, which is that many adults are not grownup enough to be parents in the first place.
Nothing has been said in this thread that is more true than this, until now.

This plays into the current materity leave debate we're having here I guess. There's been a fair bit of bitching from all quarters, surprisingly the elderly (if you believe Today Tonight, which you shouldn't) because they didn't have it in their day or something. It's kinda hilarious, when stacked up aginst most of Europe, just how much bitching we'll do about this sort of thing. Probably the same people will be on the radio complaining about how whitey is being out bred by the muslims.
As if it couldn't get any more OT
All of this depends on the job guess. Eight hours a day is pretty good by recent standards, not counting the inevitable commute which is what usually kills it. A return of actual casual work wouldn't be bad for many people I'm sure. But these days here casual is just a kind of wage. The hours in a casual job are typically full time and more these days.

Come on now, Iggles! Even if a space elevator is unfeasible with today's materials, it doesn't mean further research on the subject isn't warranted.
I see what you're saying, but if the only reason the construction workers
aren't getting paid overtime is because of some archaic loophole, wouldn't the most prudent course of action be to enact legislation to
close it?
I mean, it's not as though the animals up in the tarsands are actually going to notice the effects of a few hundred extra drilling rigs.
