I finally played (
http://www.wurb.com/if/game/17.html) Anchorhead (IF game) recently and the setting and mood was so Lovecraftian, so unnerving, it was great. And it was by design. If you like Lovecraft you really ought to play it -- esp since it's free. It's also helps explain why I will never move into a New England hamlet in my life.

the fact I didn't even hear about HP Lovecraft until I started using this forum and that no one I know has ever spoken about him in RL has somewhat put me off investigating further.
lol not to say that only mainstream shit is any good but you know as well as I that the internet can be a refuge of those determined on proclaiming questionable causes (not to say this of Mr Lovecraft of course).

I haven't actually read any of his stuff, but I have heard about it - can anybody here recommend me something to read by him (I am playing Call of the Cthulhu on the PC currently, and really enjoying it - so it would be cool to read some of the stuff it was based on).
Cheers :)

Well, I highly recommend his stories "The Call of Cthulhu", "Shadow Over Innsmouth", "The Dreams in the Witch House", "The Whisperer in the Darkness", "The Dunwich Horror", "The Haunter of the Dark", and "The Festival".

Who gives a damn if words are reused?
As long as it's done well, I don't see any problem.
Or maybe it isn't repetition that's that problem. Maybe you just have a problem with old-fashioned words...or you're too lazy to pick up a dictionary. Whatever works.

Big words coming from someone who rarely uses any words at all.

I can't see where anyone has said that re-using the words is a problem or bad. Way to kneejerk though :)
metal dawn on 18/6/2006 at 01:44
Yes. I kneejerked and I overdid it on purpose.
