The same thing we do every night, Pinky. Try to take over the world.

Really? I just assumed it was a micro Linux distro. I'll have to look this up. :)

"I think so, Brain. But does that mean rubber pants are back in style?"

Minix is older than Linux, so it's not a distro.
Ah, the Linux distro holy wars... My own take on the situation is that they all have their place. Admittedly, Dead Rat's place is in a bin. I hear Fedora is better.
MenuetOS is a pretty cool game, but I don't know how usable it is. If it's possible to compile GNU tools for it with no modification, I might consider putting it on a disk at some point.

Re-read Malygris' post. Check henke's location. Repeat until you get the joke.
DOH!

Yup. I thought the "cruelty" comment was on Minix rather than henke's laughter at impoverished children.

No. Linux is a completely independent implementation with no relation to Minix.

(

http://www.cs.vu.nl/~ast/brown/followup/) here, you learn that the people claiming that Linus Torvalds took most of Tanenbaum's code from minix and/or other OSes were at least partly wrong.
(
http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/opensources/book/appa.html) Here, you learn that Linus is a self-centered bastard who, in fact, did a crappy job with first implementations of the Linux kernel (Actually, wrong link, it's mostly a flamefest on the microkernel / monolithic approach, but still interesting).
Anyway, we know that Torvalds developed Linux ON minix - no discussion on this - FACT. Also, Torvalds took a great number of concepts FROM minix, but probably reimplemented them. The bottom line is that in fact, he probably had better copy his code from elsewhere because it sucked.
To answer Haegan's question :
* When it comes to gaming, I use Windows 2000 Pro.
* When it comes to desktop and multimedia, I use a CKO build of the 2.6 Linux Kernel on a debian sid install (using primarily a custom build of Enlightenment DR17 as window manager).
* When it comes to servers or SERIOUS NETWORK BUSINESS, I use Net/BSD.
* I like the SunOS and AmigaOS kernels a lot. Unfortunately, the former is only catching up speed, while the latter is dead :(. I may probably be a SunOS desktop junkie someday in the future.

An operating system is more than just the kernel...
