I've been using (
http://www06.wolframalpha.com/) WolframAlpha for a while now. The creator says it's not meant as a rival to Google, since instead of finding sites where the search terms are used, it performs calculations, searches for statistics and so on.
It's very handy if you need to do a quick calculation. I read that (
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/athletics/8204381.stm) you know who just ran 100 metres in 9.58 seconds, so into WolframAlpha I entered in
100m in 9.58 seconds to mph and it did it. It can also do it if you type
9.58s over 100m to mph.
It also says that that speed is 0.95 the estimated average cruising airspeed of an unladen European swallow. :cheeky:
It can also do graphs, solve equations, or find where two graphs intersect. If you type in a date, or even
tomorrow or
today it'll tell you things like which week of the year it's in, the times for sunrise and sunset and the type of moon we'll have. If you type in your name it'll tell you how common it is.
If you type in
1 apple, it tells you what nutrients you get from it. I could go on but I think you get the point...

What's that compared to the cruising airspeed of an African swallow? ;)

How did I guess that it would answer "42"?
Try asking it how many fingers you're holding up.

So I looked up 9.75 inches, the engine brought back no reference to Ron Jeremy.

lol. I asked it how much wood a woodchuck would chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood. It turns out the answer is 361.9237001 cubic centimetres a day.

What is your name?
My name is Wolfram|Alpha.
What is your quest?
To do computation for the world.
What is the capital of Assyria?
Ashur(or Qalat Sherqat), Calah(or Nimrud), Dur Sharrukin(or Khorsabad) and Nineveh.
oh SNAP
(we get access to this omnipotent all-knowing supercomputer and this is the first thing we do with it)

I stumped it. I asked "how much does mr creosote weigh?"
It replied "Wolfram|Alpha isn't sure what to do with your input."
