I am going to be traveling soon, and will be away at a hotel for like 6 weeks. They will have wireless internet access. The problem is, I don't have any free PCI slots to add a wireless card to my PC. I do however, have a wireless router that says it can become an Access Point. My question is, if I can hook up this router to my ethernet jack, and have it connect to the wireless network out there?
I only saw instructions online of how to add it with a ethernet cable to an existing wired network, so you can have wireless and wired networking.
I have a crappy USB2.0 802.11G wireless network card, but it doesn't get as good of a signal as I'd like. I'm thinking the wireless router would have a better signal as it's got a big antenna and powered with A/C power from the wall.
Normally, I'm an expert at setting up wireless networks, but this one has me stumped.

Hi TBE
Dont bother with the router, its not worth the grief involved. Pop down to your local computer place and buy a USB wifi dongle..
What OS you running pn the pc..
sorted.

Maybe I should have said DONGLE, but USB 2.0 should point you in the proper direction.
Ok, problem solved. I have an old laptop I brought with me.
1. Installed (
http://www.amazon.com/Linksys-WPC300N-Wireless-N-Notebook-Adapter/dp/B000FDL3XU) this Linksys WPC300N Wireless-N Notebook Adapter card into laptop.
2. Found internet with laptop in decent spot.
3. Installed wireless router to ethernet port in laptop.
4. Configured laptop to connect to the internet through the PCMCIA Linksys card.
5. Configured laptop to give internet to every other computer on my network through the wireless router.
6. Installed USB 2.0 Dongle Wireless Adapter in Desktop computer.
7. Typing away as we speak. :thumb:
