Have any brave souls installed it yet? Any problems with thief or dromed?

Is this an official release or a beta? What are the details of the fixes? How did you find out about it or do you use automated installs via MS to tell you it was available, etc. Thanks. :)

Thanks SinisterShadow for the link. I'll need to advise my Tech friend to see what he thinks and let him do whatever if necessary. :)

I've already looked through all the documentation I could find, and not surprisingly, no mention of thief. I thought I'd bring this up now because microsoft is finally sending SP3 out via windows update, so I guess it's as safe as it will ever be, and lots of people will be installing it now. There's no way I was going to install the beta version, thief or no thief.

From what I've read it mainly improves security of Office 2003... anything else significant or can I live without it?

I think it also rolls up all patches incorporated since SP2. A boon if you need to reinstall XP now and again.
You can also just use a different updater, like (
http://www.heise.de/ct/projekte/offlineupdate/download_uk.shtml) ctupdate or (
http://www.autopatcher.com/) apup to keep up with the latest MS patches. These allow you to roll up patches, put them on a CD/DVD, so you can patch a machine without risking an internet connection, using Windows Update (which, with these packages, you can now turn off and banish forever), or installing WGA.
Don't know if there are any significant advantages to SP3, though.
edit: BR, you might be thinking of SP3
for Office 2k3. SP3 for XP is a different patch for a different product.

Loaded it on yesterday with no problems at all. It took quite a long time, well over an hour, but kept you well informed about what was happening.
Everything appears to work just the same as before.
Thief Gold, Thief 2 and DromEd don't seem to be affected at all (I haven't got TDS installed right now).
Quote:
Windows® XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) includes all previously released updates for the operating system. This update also includes a small number of new functionalities, which do not significantly change customers' experience with the operating system.
One advantage is that if you slipstream it into an XP installation disk you won't have to suffer 80+ updates after repairing or reinstalling XP. (That's what happens when I reinstall SP2.)

It supposedly offers a 10% performance boost over sp2, at least in productivity software

Does it support DirectX 10? :p
