Volitions Advocate and Al_B are probably right. At this point, doing anything other than an uninstall of the HP shitty resident for wireless is a loss of time

If there is no Wireless Networks tab then the drivers do not support Zero Configuration, which is a bit rare nowadays. I'd see if there are any newer ones.

Yeah, get rid of the HP thing. I hate all the pre-loaded bloatware they stick on try and make things "easier".

Heh. I got in touch with HP support, and their first recommendation was also to uninstall their bloatware. :D
Didn't help, though.
I did figure it out finally. The wireless zero configuration service somehow got removed completely. Reinstall, reboot, and everything's happy again!
