Windows Update failing... Repair install? - by Thirith

For a week or two now, my Windows Updates (Win 7) have been failing. They download okay but don't install. I've gone through all the lists of what should be done, I've been in touch with Microsoft Support, but nothing seems to be working.
In the meantime I was wondering: does a repair install usually work with this sort of thing? And is there anything to keep in mind with repair installs (such as doing one deleting all your porn, sending all your friends fundamentalist Christian MP3s and violating your cat)?

Yup, and several other official support pages. I've pretty much tried everything. Thanks, though.
I think it might be a result of me fucking up (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=137275) the transfer of the root drive, the result being that somehow the relevant system files and folders ended up being active on two separate drives/partitions, which I only realised a few days later. Will have to see whether I can revert back to the previous state, but right now I suspect I might end up having to reinstall my system from scratch due to being careless...
