This isn't a question so much as a heads up. Microsoft apparently decided to change how the registry works, and either failed to give anyone else any forewarning, or thought it wouldn't cause any widespread issues. Well, apparently it's caused quite a few people quite a few problems, and now some nice 3rd party folk are doing something about it. This affects any Windows OS from XP up (and maybe even as far back as 2000), so if any of you have automatic updates on, even for critical updates only, then a black desktop at bootup figures largely in your future.

Blah. You're right. I'm seeing a bunch of follow ups stating this is more an issue with random 3rd party software and malware than anything MS has done. I guess I got caught up in the fervor after seeing all those OMG WINDOZE SKREWED UP AGAIN BLACK SCREEN links on all the big tech sites.
