Ahh, I had a Pentium 75 with win 95 back in the day. We nicknamed it "dumbpaq". I even got Unreal to run on it in a tiny window with all lighting effects disabled. It pulled about 10-15 FPS this way.
I don't really recommend putting win98 on such a machine, even if you get more RAM. It will chug. I loaded Windows 98 on mine and it chugged. Even on such a machine, Win95 is quite snappy.
If the issue is establishing a modern and fast form of communication with the machine, I would network it. You could also use a parallel zip drive to transfer data. :) I've still got one and it still works too. 4 disks would equate to the entire HDD.
I actually used wi-fi on a 486 with Windows 95 to browse the web way back when. It was via a PCMCIA card though, not PCI.
