It's only easier if you have an eidetic memory and can instantly recall the name of every program you have installed. We mere mortals though, usually have to drill down through a few folders, or might not even know exactly what we're looking for, so need to browse around a bit.
I can remember most of what I have, yes. I dunno, maybe some techy types have an extra huge amount of stuff installed but I have a decent spread of games, utilities and work-related programs. My memory is nothing special. Start menu\screen remains useful for when rummaging around for something I forgot the name of.
I never hated the start menu, I just found I wasn't using it so much anymore.

It is soooo
cute when you pretend to be human.

logical subfolders, like Games, System, Multimedia, etc.
Ah that's more like it!

Seriously though - my desktop has 16 programs pinned to the taskbar grouped by function/frequency of use and 10 folders in a Rocketdock on the left side, split into groups, with 3 extra links to the MS Office programs I use. Nothing else. I admit, I'm an organisation freak and can't stand mess.
I don't need the start menu really and use it rarely.

See, this is why you should troll less often. Not because trolling is bad, but because you're so very, embarrassingly awful at it.

Hey, I honestly don't care how it looks if it does the job - and at least for me it does so better than nested folders. Single click and I'm there.

I'm not trolling, I was joking with you. :(
You should know by now. :(:(:(

Just got Win 7 Home, nice! Looks like XP but with better graphics and it seems to run smoother as well. Glad I decided not to go for 8, from what I'm reading in other reviews, a lot of guys seem to hate it so far.
SubJeff on 6/11/2012 at 07:46
Well you messed up there then.
There isn't really anything to hate. I find I'm not using the metro stuff very much and Win 8 is definitely faster than 7.

Win8 is almost identical to 7 as far as games and the the internet go. It's thinner on resources, and doesn't eat through batteries nearly as quickly, but that's really only important if you're on a laptop. If you're on a desktop, it's basically Windows 7 with a new skin and a super big start menu.
This is the situation I find myself in right now. Have Win7, and I'm happy with it. But Win8 is pretty cheap to get at the moment. Around 30 euros, and rumor is the price will get jacked up eventually. I feel like maybe I should upgrade just because it'll be cheaper to do so sooner rather than later. :erg:

That's about the reason why I made the jump. I like Windows 8 myself, and think the new UI is a more comfortable fit to how I work (though, of course, YMMV), but it's not an absolutely necessary upgrade. Yeah, it's a little faster, a little sleeker, and all that good stuff, but 7 is still just as solid as it ever was. The difference in performance between the two isn't enough to justify an upgrade.
...unless you're a big Minecraft fanatic. It literally runs twice as fast in 8 than it does in 7 for some reason. There might be some OGL improvements under the hood I'm not taking into account.

Me too.
Also, why not? You'll probably eventually anyway.
